Hoping for a serious answer but I have come to learn you guys so...
Why do I see cr125's with the J arm up in some and down on some? Wouldnt it shift backwards one way or the other? |

i actually had mine pointing down when i started shifter racing. for some reason all the j-arm manuf made there design pointing up? i liked it down because yes it does shift backwards....but i could keep my hand on the wheel and roll my knuckles forward and catch the next up shift.
i would use the stock j arm and most of the time the shift rod only had to be bent slightly since it was a straight shot back. but after i could only find j arms for the up right position i just switched to driving the kart that way.
when you take the current j arm and flip it....sometimes it is too long and might get hit or dragged...and mostly the bolt is now in a hard place to reach to tighten it or take it off when the motor is on the kart.
i believe since the icc shifts pull back to up shift...but the shift rod goes straight back and the j arm is pointing down..,,,,? that everyone wants to pull back on the shift lever to up shift....so they made the j arm point up?
it seems like paddle shift...you pull back....the old f1 cars from watching on videos...pull back to up shift as well....so there must be something to it?
but imo it is personal preference? and when anyone drives your kart and you shift backwards....they are lost and never get it right. it is also almost art work to bend cut and rethread a shift rod and do it right

Haha funny you said that, I am on my 3rd rod this year just trying to make it perfect. Both of the previous ones will work fine but just not quite...

Depends if you prefer to pull rather than push.
The j-arms available on the market are made for us wankers to pull on the up shift.....just get used to it Ace, you get more leverage from your shift arm if it's setup for you to pull due to ground clearance. This better leverage helps you as you get older with your pulling, without the use of those blue performance enhancing tablets.
