Hey Superkart Fans,
I just wanted to let everyone in the Superkart community that we already have a few Superkarts signed up for our June race at Fontana. If you haven't heard about it yet check it out in the Event Forum http://www.ekartingnews.com/viewtopic.php?t=121434
I've talked with a couple of SuperKart guys that expressed that the course may be a little tighter then they are used to running. Being a sprint racer myself, I don't know if that is the case or not. However, even if it is true it is still essentially a 2 mile sports car track that should be fun and challenging for a Superkart. Additionally, I think the entry fee is a little more affordable than what you guys are used to paying.
We tested the track on a Stock Honda and GPS put our speed at close to 100mph at the end of the straight, and we most likely didn't have the right gear. With the draft and the right gear we should see speeds in excess of 100mph in shifter classes on race day. Also, the Superkarts guys that have signed up and these guys say they should see in excess of 130mph. So, it should be fun for you guys and fun to watch as well.
Being that Tri-C is a club we went out on a limb to host this race and we would love to see as many Superkarts come out and join us as possible. It is our intent turn this into an annual event, but we need the support of the entire karting community to make that happen. So come out and join us, it is going to be a great weekend. Registration is open at the event website WWW.TCGP.NET |

The course has too many turns for a Superkart to run that fast on the infield course when we were running the oval part the twins might have hit 130. A standard 250 sprinter should outrun a Superkart fairly easy. _________________ John Kuntze

From what I've heard, the Superkarts that have run on the track that utilizes a portion of the oval said they were reaching speeds over 130mph. The highest speeds by all karts on the track we will be running will be at the end of the straight and it is still a pretty long straight. If a stock honda that isn't geared ideally is reaching 100mph range at the end without a draft, it isn't unreasonable to think a 250 Superkart will be reaching 130mph at the end. But that figure is just an estimate from someone that runs Superkarts, so it could be a little higher or a little lower on race day.
Either way, I know going fast as possible down a straight is half the fun of racing, but isn't the other half the driving skill it takes to turn? Hope we can get some more Superkarts out that like turning as well as going fast down a long straight. |

I raced at all the events on the oval unless Eddie Lawson is going to run his twin a single 250 cannot run 130 in the infield. The infield course is more like a Streets of Willow course lots of slow corners Dave Fultz use win most of the races with his sprint chassis. One year someone had a radar gun the best speed was 120 for a single going into turn 1 on the oval Eddie didn't run that year he would have been around 130-135. _________________ John Kuntze

John,
My estimate is from second hand info based on a estimate. Yours seems to be more of first hand experience, so I'll assume your right
120 or 130, hopefully we can still get some more Superkarts out to join us.

I remember a guy walking into my shop one day and wanting to get back into karting after many years of being out of the sport. He told me he had an old !@#$ type of frame with 2 McCullochs on it and it would run 160mph. Wow !
I asked him how he knew he was going that fast and he said they timed it with his brothers truck.
So, I asked him, "Your brother's truck will run 160 ?"
Sometimes speed and HP get long out of reason as the stories are told. _________________ Began kart racing 1959. Made many friends along the way. |

- They were WAY in front of their time! They was referring to Kilometers Per Hour! Since a kilometer is equal to approximately .61 miles. Doing the math (yes, I had to take my socks off); (160KPH) x (.618) = 99 MPH That is pretty fast, even if you are NOT a red neck! _________________ -Toe-Knee! |
