Welcome to the 2013 Southern Kart Club (SKC) race season!

First off, I would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year and also to congratulate all of the recent winners at the Daytona season opener. To all of the SKC club members enjoying wins, WAY TO GO! As everyone knows from the World Karting Association (WKA) releases, our first club race of the year will be a WKA VEGA / TS RACING ROAD RACING SERIES DRIVEN BY MAZDA national points race. We are excited to once again be a regional stop for the entire series, and look forward to showing the national competitors our special brand of Southern hospitality. Thom, Nick and I will be working to procure the free range pork for the traditional southern BBQ that our club enjoys at our race events. Southern Kart Club will provide the main dish (Pork) and select sides for dinner. We ask all of the club members and guests to bring sides or deserts to add to the pot-luck style gathering Saturday Night following the races. As always, the track allows overnight camping with a small additional fee at the gate. So if you do not feel like leaving the track, you have another option.

MotorsportsReg automatic registration will open at 8:00 1/9/13-

Fill in the fields finish and print and then send the check in for the pre-entry discount.

The rest of the SKC race schedule will include two additional race dates at Roebling Road and one date, also a national, at Kershaw. These dates will be:

April 5-7 Carolina Motorsports Park, S.C. (national)

June 29-30 Roebling Road (regional)

September 28-29 Roebling Road (regional)

Due to a scheduling conflict with Barber Raceway, we will not be able to have an additional race this year. Last year, Robby Harper set up an additional race, and we were able to have it approved as a Plus One race for our club points. This year, we will revert to the old format of calculating our club member regional points by applying the best three out of four finishes.
SKC Class sponsorship forms are available on the website. Sponsorship includes your club membership along with an early move in and sponsor parking for the season. We thank all of last years class sponsors, and hope for additional new sponsors in 2013.

With the increased workload on the volunteers and board members for a national race, our 2012 points Banquet will be held at the June Race. We do not want to short change our loyal club members with a rushed banquet on an already full weekend.

One club item that needs to be addressed over the national weekend will be elections of or retention of SKC board members. In 2012 the SKC membership approved the ability to conduct electronic voting for club elections. Additionally there will be ballots available at registration. Write-in candidates can be added up until the final tally Saturday night. There will be five new board members elected to members at the BBQ replace/retain half of the board seats. We will announce the 2013 SKC board.

The following Board members are up for re-election:

Nick Weil, Mark Scott and Dominic Greco

Members in the middle of the two-year term are:

Dave Williams, Jackie Myers, Thom Andresen and Steve Jeffers

Sunday morning during the quiet hour, there will be a meeting of the newly elected SKC board members to begin the club year.

Finally, I would like to personally thank the members of the SKC for making each and every event a family style gathering. To our sponsors, thanks for the much needed financial backing in these tough times. To the other board members and volunteers, thanks for all of the hard work you do for the club and racers that visit our track. I would like to extend a special thanks to Dave and Sherrie Williams for their work in scoring and registration, Mark Scott for always helping the disabled karts off the track, and Nick Weil for being our site web master, chef and for his fine event race direction.
Thank you again for another great race season that was 2012, and I look forward to a fun 2013 season.

Dominic Greco SKC President

DG,

Is the "No personal vehicles" rule still in effect? If so I'll leave the scooter at home.

While I'm at it.....

What time do the rest of us get to load-in on Thursday????

Is a temp/weekend membership available? Cost??

Do I get a discount if I wear my SKC t-shirt??? Laughing

Robert,

The track has a rule about no personal vehicles unless there is a need for a handicap/medical issue. The best transport ia a bike and when the track closes for the night, they do not mind you riding the track if you want.

Sponsors first; then as quick as we can general parking on a first come first serve bassis.

WKA weekend memberships are $20 and will be available at the track.

SKC shirt get the automatic "high Five" by the saftey tech man (Me)...

See you there.
