Guys,

I have recently bought a used 2011 GP10. The throttle cable comes out of the bracket (the ear on the frame where the metal part of the cable comes out) right into the steering rod. In fact, the hexagonal rod is rounded quite a bit from the cable rubbing on it. Seems like something must be wrong but I can't see any other way to route the cable (unless I build some sort of custom bracket. Anyone else had anything like this or know what to do about it?

Thanks,

Todd

Leave it alone, it's fine. Many karts are the same way.

Todd,

I had the same exact chassis (2010) with the same problem. I drilled and tapped another hole directly below the original tapped hole, problem solved.

Ken,

Why would you "engineer" something like that in the first place? I had the same thought about drilling a lower hole but "wow" there is a VERY narrow open space below that steering tie rod. I'm not sure that my pedal position will allow that to work but I will give it a shot. I think I need a bracket mounted to the floor pan with a little roller on it! Thanks for the advice.

Clark,

Thanks for the advice. I'm sure it would be O.K. as is. It's going to bug me to have the throttle cable rubbing the tie rod though as it just seems like it should not be that way!

You can also try changing the mounting point up or down of where the throttle cable attaches to the pedal. Keep in mind that the lower the mounting point is the longer the pedal travel and vice versa.

Fuel Hose. Just run 6 inches of it up and over/under the tie rod no more wear. But the beauty of karting is tinkering and fabricating things, so quick and easy or fun and creative you get to choose.

Add a few washers between the spindle and hiem.

I did that and also drilled a hole lower on the original cable mount like Ken said.

I just went to the salvage yard and picked up a Toyota wireless throttle cable, but I think it's hitting my floor mat now. Twisted Evil

Well that would explain all the unwanted acceleration then!

I saw some special spacers at one of the places but I was not sure if/how it would affect the steering geometry. Still....if there's no negative impact, I might give that a try. After looking at it again, I might build a little ear to mount onto the factory tab which would raise the cable above the tie rod. I had to move my pedals all the back and I don't think there IS a straigh path from the pedal to the current cable bracket no matter how low you go. The cable starts rubbing on the tube for the front bar at some point. I'll see what I can come up with. Thanks for the advice everyone.
