Is it possible the absence of Sam Beasley & Kyle Kirkwood accounted for the slightly less turnout? Between the two of them, the WKA lost like 17 entries! |

If they would have told us by mid summer we were going to the pipe I would have had no problem with it. We build our own engines and a conversion like this for us could take months. I am putting a son through college and I can't afford an engine builder who all he does is figure out the best head angle/ squish/ carb settings ect in a 30 day window. It has to be done by us in house or we cannot afford to race against the highly funded teams. I like the idea of going faster it is just the out of pocket expences overnight I do not like. I am sure Dakota's and Olson's engine was not the same configureation as it was with the can. Not to mention the weather slowed things down sat. So the engines that were best matched to the pipe didn't even show their hand till sunday and then the weather was cold. So do we even know the whole story? |
What is not fair, everyone had the same amount of time to prepare.
I know what Pesek and Schneider did, since they pit with me. You are making it to complicated and the idea should be to have fun with your son |

| If someone tells you that the KPP new rule with up to 2 inches shorter flex and the new Yamaha pipe did not change the engine set up, It would be like nascar changing the restrictor plate size just before the race and not think that some may gain an advantage. With that said, the teams in nascar most likely know that such a change may happen and have already tested it and know what to change to go along with the smaller plate. Like anything else,(if the classes survive), they will find more performance in the future. The timing of making the KPP a pro Money race and changing the flex rule at the same time, may turn out to be not such a good idea. |

I know I was chomping at the bit for the new KPP Sr. class, until I realized I had to buy 2 entry fees and 2 sets of tires per weekend just for a chance at $300. Still, the end of year package is nice. Too bad you need to do the 5 weekend death march + another 5 weekend regional program to win it.

You could be racing any of the other classes, they don't have any awards. Mostly in karting you race because you like it. Its nice to have a little extra given away IMHO |

I have no real dog in this hunt , but just wanted to say that I have watched Dakota race for quite a few years at our club (OVKA) and with WKA He is without a doubt got talent , and knows what it takes drive though traffic to get to the front. We run a "pea pick" at the track for most of the season which has helped refine his natural talent .
btw PP is Pat favorite format
As to testing , we are in the snow belt , the track conditions have been very poor...since the announcement of the senior pipe .
Just wanted to add some insight regarding Dakota..
BTW Dakota is just one of the many fine drivers that OVKA club produces every year..
I think it has to due with it being located in the middle of the corn fields...kinda like that movie Fields of Dreams... _________________ Ohio Valley Karting Association

Seems there have been a lot of questions on turnouts at Daytona in this thread, and others, so I thought I would jump in.
I'm one of the co-creators of KartRank.com, whose primary focus is driver rankings, but once you have all the data necessary to do that you can do a lot of other things. We don't have an agenda, and are doing this as a service to the karting community by trying to make sense of a complicated industry through the use of data. No personal biases here.
We just finished looking at year over year counts in different classes at Daytona: Daytona comparison 2011/2012. We tried to look at it from a number of different viewpoints such as average kart count, total entries, and number of unique drivers making the trip (i.e. did fewer people show up, but run more classes?).
I don't want to hijack the thread with discussion of the website, but please know that we'd welcome any feedback either directly or in a separate thread. |

Hey Chris, I just want to thank you for proving that my stats professor did make sense after all. If only he taught in karting terms |

Pat, what I was asking was, are the engine builders really recutting the Yammy heads from a different configuration for the new pipes than the way they were cut from say the L-2 pipes from RLV. _________________ Don't get stuck in someone else's discarded chewing gum with your thought process. |
