Just trying to take an informal poll on how you run your kart in relation to the front and rear bars. I didn't put this in the chassis and handling section because I wanted input from people driving higher hp karts and figured I would get people becoming too technical in that section or one's with lower hp karts.
This is not brand specific and we will say the kart has the original 50 mm axle it came with (usually stiffer rather than softer in my experience) and you are running MG yellows or a tire equivalent in grip or even a little harder and you are driving on sprint tracks. This is a question for the everyday driver, not the team driver that carries 10 different axles with them and has a chassis tuner.
Do you have your front bar in or out?

I've never seen anyone fast actually run a rear bar in. Maybe in the rain, but I don't even bring the rear bar to the track anymore. BTW: Rear bar in can feel really good, but it can stop the kart from transferring weight the way it should. I believe that's why most remove it .
Front bar seems to be more chassis brand specific. For example, I've noticed Tonykart's usually have it in (and in varying stiffness), while CRG type chassis usually have it out. That's not 100% accurate, but most of the time that's what I've noticed. _________________ Randy

The best thing you can do with a rear bar is cut it up with a hacksaw so no one can use it again. _________________ understeer happens on road courses and usually is pronounced with a British accent. Push happens on ovals and usually is pronounced through a wad of chew. Other than that, I don't think there's a difference - Jim Derrig

I've nearly always ended up with the rear bar out, CRG, Tony, WildKart, Wright, GP. Front bar comes and goes. _________________ GPI Racing | WildKart | Maxter | Hoosier

| Interesting. Does not using the rear bar also extend to TaG/Rotax? |

Yes, I've never used it.
If you have WAY WAY WAY too much lift, put it in. But 99.9% of people are looking to GET lift.
If you're 200 pounds and running a 28mm chassis, put the rear bar in. Otherwise, see above posts on proper disposal methods. _________________ T.J. Koyen

| So how do you account for the fact that every new kart has the rear bar as an option? |

I've always wondered the same thing. It's a funky perception deal that none of the manufactures want to take first stab at producing a chassis without a rear bar. Oh no! That chassis isn't as adjustable as the others. _________________ Randy
