| Kurt Mathewson wrote: | | While the engine debate is pretty much over with SKUSA, my question is why has the age limit for G1/S4 continued to be lowered to now 30? I'm 54 now so it doesn't affect me, but the G1 class was affectionately called the (Geezers) class which encouraged a lot of more "experienced" guys to keep running whether it was on an ICC or a Moto. Now 30yrs old guys can jump around and try to pick off a class they can win if they can't hit the podium in S1, by going to S2 or S4. I think 35 would be a fair age to encourage more "Geezers" to keep running and entering big events such as SNats. Having said that I gotta give props to Bonnier Moulton who kicked ass at SNats in S4. Not sure how old he is but I'm sure he'd kick ass at 65! JMO |
Now there is a smart talking point. I'm guessing S4 is 30 years old? What would happen if G1 was back at the nats or the regional seriese but at a higher age like 40. These are the guys that can afford the class ( since its so much more expensive to run ) Wonder what would happen.
Kurt is either on something or onto something. I like it. _________________ http://bridgemanbroskarting.blogspot.com/

Shure would be nice to get a realistic number of how many drivers were SERIOUSLY interested in having a "Mad scientist" type unlimited class. I know the cost would go straight up and some who are interested couldn't afford to run. I'm interested in running Formula 1 but can't afford it. They won't stop running F1 because participation is low and most can't anywhere near afford it. To me,that's the beauty of an unlimited class, in any sport. Top Fuel ,Pro Football, NBA, MLB,F1 or whatever it may be. I think that the attraction to these, is the unobtainability(Big Word Score)lol I might be talking out my ***. But I think it's positive for any sport to have that "Elite" (NOT BETTER THAN) class.
Thanks for listening

I called about the G1 class at supernats as Im turning 30 and would like to run it.
I relayed the same point that guys 30+ who want to compete for fun like running ICC just because. They said its just a matter of interest.
If enough people call and want it. They will bring it back. I believe the key is just running it at supernats and not the other races. That way you max the participants instead of having a few show up at each event. Most guys with jobs cant do them all anyway.
If you guys want to back. Call them up like I did. Spread the word. With enough interest the WILL run it.
Or start a G1 petition thread for supernats to organize it! |

If G1 was to exist as a masters class the min age would need to be at least 36.

Sounds good because age 30 for a masters class is ridiculous!! I'd even go age 40 limit but that would probably exclude too many drivers.

I understand everyone’s point about age. The other part of the equation is seat time. There needs to be a class where guys my age with jobs and other responsibilities can run, where we don’t have to compete against kids who live and breathe this stuff still.
Regardless someone should start a petition. You can do it right here on the forum |
