I think the people that make false ID's and stir the pot should be exposed. It will deter future trolls... _________________ Matt Dixon

As a SoCal resident I tried to support them with purchases whenever I could, but some stuff was just more convenient and often less expensive to buy online. I got the feeling they were struggling with inventory as they didn't have a single matching wheel set on the shelf. Who is left in L.A. County to pick up the market? |
Sorry if I posted something inappropriate, my mistake
It's really too bad if there isn't support for a full time kart shop in Los Angeles, the city where karting was born
All small businesses have had a challenging time the last few years with the economic collapse, credit drying up, and the move for people to shop online. I know firsthand the challenges faced in this industry for any local based business trying to support racers both in a retail setting and at the track. Hopefully this year or next I'll be able to add karts back into my product line, lawnmowers and snowblowers just aren't as much fun
Unfortunately for our sport the online retailers can't provide a few things that are really needed to grow participation. When dad gets the bug from looking online he still needs a place to go and have his kid sit in a kart and make engine noises. UPS doesn't deliver to the track on Sunday, and can't help tune your carburetor. And most importantly, when your business model depends on selling a large volume of parts and supplies to people online it's much harder to share your passion with people who will likely only know you through your website.
I'm not saying people shouldn't price shop the internet or that the folks who run online businesses aren't passionate about the sport. It's just that especially for novices entering karting for the first time there's really not a substitute for a dedicated local business where they can go to find out what it really takes to get into karting.
Most of us on this forum are more than willing to give our opinion on what karts, engines, or classes are best for beginners but I think the one thing we can all agree on is when you're getting started you really need to visit your local track and the shops that service it....
The shop where my dad and I got started (CalKart in San Jose) did more than just racing karts, they also serviced chainsaws, minibikes and fun karts so there's more than one way to have a kart shop. Hopefully someone will pickup the ball in L.A. and provide the kind of service (and pricing) that will bring people into their showroom.

I hear that Schwab Charles and Sachs Goldman are upset with the fake ID's popping up. |
