Gentlemen,
Back in 1974 when my brother Ron and I started into karting, Komet and later BM and later Parilla engines were great and powerful engines.
We understood that IAME stood for "Italian - American Motori Engineering, and that Dan Lamello, his wife (of the company APPCO) and Gary Hartman were all a part of the "American" ownership or the founding and engineering collaboration of those early years, along with Bruno Grana, a true visionary back in the day and other great Italian engineering minds that were also involved.
The IAME website does NOT mention this American connection other than a tribute to the sales here.
Does anyone here know or have better data than this?
Or even know why the American contribution is so easily ignored or forgotten??? I remember that it was significant at that time...! _________________ David Siller

Probably ought to include George Russell in the list of Americans involved. _________________ Greg Wright

I knew Dan Lumello personally. He's the one responsible for the importation of the BM engines, 1971, with the formation of APPCO, American Performance Products Company. He and Don Shipps ran the company for Dan's mother until it's sale to the Gardner Family, Gus, and A.R.
Parilla engines have been around the US since the 1950's. I race against one in 1963, water cooed.
As far as I know there was no American involvement other than importing them into the country. I could be wrong though.
Dan Lumello, Lynn Haddock, and I keep in touch but I have never asked this question. Guess I will next time I talk with the4m. _________________ Jean Stafford
