|
|
Well guys I can use some help.. I'm looking to purchase a kart in Washington state and need to get it to Massachusetts ... I have placed two adds on Uship no bites..and have called several freight carriers but they want ridiculous money.... Anyone have any first hand knowledge shipping a kart cross country..
Looking for recommendations on who to use.. What needs to be done to prep for shipping.. What would be considered a reasonable shipping charge..
Any help would be appreciated..Thank you |

I would contact Italian Motors in Sumas WA after the supernats and ask them if they can help, even if it's just with suggestions on who to use to ship. When I worked for a MotoGuzzi shop we used Forward Air to ship bikes, but we had to crate them, and drop them off at the terminal. At a minimum the kart should have no fluids that could leak (no gas), be strapped to a pallet, coverted with cardboard, and shrink wrapped. If the seller is unwilling to crate, or requires a liftagate with residential pickup it's going to start getting expensive quickly. You might want to look closer to home for that dream kart.

The last mile to and from the local carrier is what kills you.
What you need to do is find out who the carriers are local to the seller and see if he can drop it off, and on your end you need to arrange to pick it up. Most of the time the local shipper will find the terminal closest to you and forward the info you need to pick it up. I had a Kart shipped to me from LA and I live in PA and it was 180 bucks. This Kart was in an original kart box and on a pallet.
I have also used Greyhound from PA to Tennessee. Weight limit is 150 so you have to pull the motor and ship it separately. I pulled the steering wheel, and made a cardboard cover that followed all the contours. I wrapped it with Shipping wrap. I left the wheels only exposed so it was easy for them to move around. It was a pain, but worked like a charm. If you want pics I can email them to you. Just for fun I drew a driver on the outside of the box with a sharpie. When I dropped it off the security pulled guard pulled out his sharpie and started adding to the picture. By the time the receiver got it, the driver had a mustache and the kart had a cup holder with a beer in it. Pretty funny. _________________ Muscle Cars, Guitar, Karting |

Check the greyhound express web site. Each of the cities will be listed. The ones with a 150 behind the name will ship up to 150 pounds. _________________ Muscle Cars, Guitar, Karting |
