Jordon Musser from Coppell, Texas, beat Mack McCormack from Alabama by 1.4 seconds to win the Rotax Street Challenge at Rock Island and qualify for the Rotax Max Nationals. Last year's winner and 2001 RMC National Champion Tim Lobaugh was third. 17 karts in the field representing 9 states. Congrats to Mr. Musser for a great showing. Did not break the lap record for the class of 34.6 set by Skuzzie North of Bermuda in 2001, however. Fastest lap was Mr. Musser's 34.981.

Only 6 of the 17 max karts finished the 20 laps, what happened?

The top qualifiers pretty much all finished. There was an accident that took out the back half of the field.

Sorry we missed you Roger. Gateway needs to be re-sheduled or dropped!! Skuzzie and Skitchy (Jason / Scott) did a great job. 1st-1st-2nd-4th-4th-1st places. Must be the equipment

Rodger

Great fun!

There were more then six karts running and might have finished.

But for one rule of the race which was not explained before entering.

1. If you got lapped you were out of the race.

With that in mind some of the drivers had the added pressure to go faster then there talents and the equipment were ready for in the early laps.

Which may have been the cause in part of the huge wreck at the start lucky no one got hurt.

2. Only six drivers didn’t get lapped or more would have finished and maybe even moved up in the standings.

There were a couple of drivers who drove over a 1,000 miles to race Rock and posed no problem on the track in a 17 kart field 5 of which were out by the 2nd laps due to the 1st lap wreck.

What is better keeping the slower karts in to make every one happy or six kart at the finish with some still running in the pits?

I came to run the Rock not to win an entry to another race?

Gary: The use of the blue flag issue has been debated to death over the years (please don't start that one again!). Like it or not, we use it as part of our effort to make the race safer ... lapped traffic is a source of accidents. And once you get down a lap on a track the size of ours, you're not going to get back into it. I know there are those that don't agree, but that's the way we've done it for many years now and we'll continue to do it. I'm not sure any racer is going to decide whether they are going to go to a race or not based on whether they might get blue flagged ... most probably don't think it will happen. Racers know the flag exists (I hope), it's just that some races choose not to use it. Should we tell them in the entry form "we use all the flags?" Its use IS explained at the drivers' meetings.
