ROTAX JR CLASS

We are looking very hard at getting into this class next year. How big of a following does this class actually have in the central United States? Who else might be looking to get into this class next year?

Jim,
As you know we have run in the Rotax jr. class this year. I can say that we have had a great time running the SKUSA Red River Regional Program. It took us about 2 to 3 months to understand how to adjust the Rotax jr. motor. At first we were attempting to set it (jet it) like sr. motors. These run different than sr. motors. Best thing you can do is get an air meter and go to the track and test your motor to jetting size. We have 2 motors and they each jet different from one another. Also David will have to learn how to apply gas. These don't like having the gas stomped on at low rpms. Must feather into it.

The best thing I can say about the Rotax Jr. class is the people we complete with all seem to work together to get the motor, jetting, and gearing working correct. Then we let the kids go out and see who drives the best that day. We don't seem to have the constant scramble to get everything ready.

If you look at the results from the last SKUSA regional race in Houston, fastest lap times were within hundreds of a second of each other. To me that puts the race back in the driver's hands.
As far as maintenance, (knock on wood)we have had very little. In one year we have replace the fuel pump $23.00, and pipe packing. Both of these were done as preventative.

I hope to see you make the move. The class is growing all the time.

Im 55 and went to Denton for the SKUSA Amatures I think I was the Oldest Rookie it was a great event.If I can doit, You can do it.

Lots of Rotax Jrs.

Chris,

You didn't have to spend the $23 to replace the fuel pump, you can buy rebuild kits for about $4-$5. I recommend you keep a couple handy for at-track problems.

Jim, as you know I have three karts running the Rotax Jr. Michael, as you know has considerable experience in other classes, but just loves the Rotax. He is turning some very good times at TKC, faster than 80cc or any 100cc pipe class. My two newphes, Randy and Ryan who are both new karters are doing quite well with the Rotax. Since they have no experience with driving, they can concentrate on learning to drive and chassis setup instead of messing with the Yamaha clutch, carb, etc. Chassis setup is somewhat different than with the Yamaha due to the weight, corner entry speed and power curve of the Rotax. I, as you might expect, know what chassis you will need! David's experience and success in the 4 cycles will help him nurse the Rotax through slow tight portions of a track. Driver must be very smooth because of the unusual power band of the Rotax. If you decide to go with the Rotax, let me know, I will try to help!
