and, for anyone curious, all entries received by WKC get randomized, within the date they are received, before they actually get posted in WKC's registration database (note, though, that top 5 posns are locked in by last years standings during pre-reg)...here's the randomization information:

Yes, the reserved spots have been the WKA rule as long as I can remember, and believe it or not back in the day I even had a couple of those spots reserved for me. Yes, that has been a few years...
Regarding randomizing when you get more than 1 entry per day; doesn't the mailman already do that for you by default? You have no control over the method to his madness, hell... he probably dropped them 3 times on the way to your mailbox... couldn't you just open them in HIS random order?

Back in the day - before the internet was in wide usage...

For big events like Daytona, people would FedEx their entries in so they would get there first thing on the correct day. That way you would be sure of getting a good starting spot.

If you happened to have a guy racing with you that was a FedEx pilot and he knew the guys that made the deliverys to the WKA office, you could have the driver "drop off" the packages in two batches.

The first group would only contain a couple of express envelopes from one part of the country - say like, Arizona. Then the driver would walk back out and get the rest of the pakages from everywhere else. Might take him 15 or 20 minutes to do that if he had to go to the bathroom or something.

Something like that could "stack the deck" entry wise.

That was as close as I ever got to the front of the pack. Rolling Eyes

Don...you're missing one key (relatively new) wrinkle...online pre-regs (which was almost half of all pre-regs)...we have to have a fair way to mix those in, by day received, w/whatever snail mail forms we get that day.

Don, here is what we got in for this race:

Total number of entries for the weekend is 329
Number of practice entries is 92
Number of race entries is 237
Breakout by type: online orders=146, postal orders=183

If we could get rid of the postal orders we could fully automate this.

Scott - I picked up some beer called Pong. It's all yours and it's a light beer so you'll still be able to pass Holder whenever you want.
