I guess I am an engine builders dream, because if it's still running I'm staying out! I'd rather melt it down then listen to my wife the whole way home saying, " we came all this way, spent all this time and money, and you pulled off because you heard a funny noise " . Been there done that. I once tried to push start a 125 laydown almost all the way around big willow in about 108 heat after spinning and stalling the motor, just to avoid that . |

those case halves are cheap ! just buy a new pair
| Ian Harrison wrote: | Hi Chris
Not a specific piece of kit. Worst case scenario is that it's either scrapped or we have to sleeve the main bearing housings with pressed in steel sleeves. With the crankcases being reasonably inexpensive, it dosen't take too much before replacement is the best (and easiest) option.
Of course the cases are evenly pre-heated to 275 degC (527F) prior to weding.

If only it were quite that simple!!
Anyway my man with the TIG says this is a simple one, so lets wait and see.
We decided to replace the cases on this one, but if you want something to do Chris . . . . . I have all the pieces
Best Regards

Gees Ian,
That motor making some serious HP now - you might have to back it down just a little to stop it ripping the top of the cases off like that or John Deer will be after it!
On a more serious note - Is there more metal holding the cylinder stud bosses on the 2005 cases than in these?
Best regards
Allan. |

Yes it very familiar There was nothing wrong with the stud mounting points on that motor. The crack started over the ignition shroud . It lost power and made a funny noise. After inspection I also made a funny noise. _________________ DEAN MARTIN |

Hi Sam, not as hard as they did when Dean saw the bill
And yes, Allan the '05 cases are a bit stronger, but not quite the same power potential. These failures mainly link back to the old '02 "large void" cylinders, which crack across the back and put extreme strain on the cases.
Best Regards
