MyLaps shows Pool as winning. Was it possibly a case of transponder location on the chassis?? If so it must have been a close one!!!!

Extreme Karting/Vemme Kart S4 Master Stock Moto
The same cast of characters filled up the top tier of the qualifying results sheet, all looking up at Texan Jordon Musser (Birel). The 3G Kart Racing driver posted the fastest lap of the session (57.584) to edge out local driver Ryan Pool (Tony Kart) by just 0.029-seconds. Musser grabbed the holeshot to begin heat one but Eddie Olpin (Komsic) was the faster driver early. He drafted by Musser as they began lap three with Pool trailing the top two. The second half of the race Curtis Cooksey (CRG), Trevor McAlister (Praga) and Chris Jennings (Birel) began running down the front three as they were spaced out by about two kart lengths each. At the end, they finished as they ran with Olpin scoring the win. Cooksey tried on the final lap to work by Pool but came up just short. The inside line grabbed the holeshot as both Utah drivers Olpin and Pool led things for the start of heat two. Musser dropped back to fourth behind McAlister with Jennings and Cooksey trailing. The remainder of the race was uneventful with Olpin and Pool driving away to a 1-2 finish. McAlister kept Musser back with Cooksey right there in fifth.
Issues struck McAlister as they made their way to the grid for the main event, pulling off onto the pit lane with a broken chain. His P3 grid spot was left open as Olpin blasted off the line to secure the top spot once again. Pool slotted into second with Musser, Cooksey and Jennings falling in behind for the early top-five. Lap three, trouble struck Olpin as well with a stuck powerplant. This put Pool at the point with Musser challenging for the spot. Cooksey ran third and came under attack by Robert Marks (CRG) on a charge with Mike Mantel (CRG) there as well with Jennings dropping back to sixth. The top two ran static but Cooksey laid down the power in the closing laps, inching closer and closer to the front duo. With three laps to go, Cooksey was on Musser’s rear bumper. Crossing the stripe to complete lap 18, Cooksey drafted pass Musser for the second position and drove up to the back of Pool as they took the white flag. Pool slammed the door on a late move from Cooksey, but Acceleration Karting driver kept the pressure on through the tight corners. Entering the bowl, Pool ran a defensive line into the corner with Cooksey laying some bumper to the back of Pool. That pushed Pool wide and Cooksey slid around for the position. Cooksey crossed the line first ahead of Pool with Musser, Marks and Mantel following. Official however penalized Cooksey for the move, handing the win to Pool - his first in his Pro Tour debut weekend, and moved Cooksey back to second. The ruling cost Cooksey 20 valuable points in the title chase, giving Olpin a 35-point advantage heading into the SuperNationals. _________________ Arizona`s #1 MX Scene

I think Curtis deserved the win, guy blocks 3 times in 1 lap. Curtis gives him a small nudge to get by after 3 blocks. Disagree with that call for sure. Great race none the less.

Awesome race, Cooksey closed a pretty big gap in the last 3 laps. Did he deserve the penalty, not for me to say. There was contact and SKUSA has an avoidable contact rule.
With just a couple corners to go, Cooksey wasn't going to get him without contact so he took the chance and put it in SKUSA's hands.
Cant say I blame him, he didnt crash the guy, just moved him over. Would have liked to see Cooksey get the win but I understand the call.
Either way, the 3 guys up front ran a awesome race and should be proud. Dont know Pool, but hats off. |

The SKUSA Pro Tour crew do a great job, the Pro Tour races this year are two of the best run races I have participated in. Ryan Pool drove a good racel. I was quite a bit faster and he had to do some very defensive driving to keep the lead. There was contact but I think Ryan is at least partly responsible for driving so defensively. He braked way sooner than I expected him to. I do understand that it is a tough call for the officials to make. I respect them for making a call and sticking to it, even if I don't agree with it.
It was a great race and a fun weekend, I hope the Pro Tour comes back to Miller next year.
Congratulations to Ryan Pool on his first Pro Tour win! _________________ www.accelerationkarting.com

Curtis,
I agree SKUSA is doing a terrific job! Atmosphere is great, competition is awesome! and the racing is great to watch in every class. You came from nowhere and made up a huge amount of ground those last few laps, it was great to watch!! |

SKUSA ran an excellent event. Kudos.
Some thoughts:
- Some serious grip was laid down. Almost as much as in PHX.
- They should have let the S1 guys race in the wet.
- I wish TJ Koyen would have gotten his rains on in time for Sat's Main.
- Utah has excellent facilities, but the racing was a little boring at times (few passing opportunities). Tag Sr and Sun's S4 main were the highlights for me.
- Cooksey penalty was questionable, but I understand, there was contact.
- The weather was a little weird, but more manageable than most ProTour event's weather.
Overall a great event. Hopefully we have good weather in Vegas; if so, it'll be excellent. _________________ Aluminos |

So do I, but that was entirely my fault. I figured that since we dnf'd out of heat 2 and were virtually starting shotgun on the field, and there were raindrops in the air, why not chance it and throw the rain tires on. TJ agreed and we went for it at the last minute. I thought we had enough time, then the impact took a dump, so we had to finish with hand tools, only to be told that we were too late, as the other karts had already left the grid. I thought I understood the rule to be that we could join at the end of the field if the leaders hadn't reached the commitment line, but I don't know exactly where they were when we went to fire up, so it doesn't really matter. Ultimately, it would've probably been the wrong call, as the rain all but ended 1/2 through the race, but I think it would've made for some great racing and drama, even though I'm sure TJ would have been riding on the rims by the end.
Anyway, it was a bad decision on my part and I wouldn't have tried it had we not already been starting last. At least sunday went better for us...that is until I tuned us out of contention in the Final. You know that sinking feeling you get 4 laps into the race when you realize you made a big mistake and now you're screwed?...I had that feeling in a big way.
Looking forward to Vegas... _________________ High Quality American Made kart stands. Available direct to you or through one of our many dealers.
