OK, guys, this is a simple question, but I'm still curious. What typw of oil works best for the ROtax air filter? 30W? 90W? WD-40?

TIA,

Marshall Mauney

Marshall, I know you are supposed to oil it, but I don't. I think you will find it will get plenty of whatever oil you mix with the gas all over it in short order. :-)

I use an aresol spray made by K&N for their air filters. The K&N filters are cotton not foam but I had the can and it seems to work fine.

I used to ride motocrass and have found the Belray foam filter oil that I used on the bike to work great on the Rotax filter also. I wouldn't recommend running it dry. This will keep the big chunks out but doesn't stop the dust.

Read your manual. It says to clean filter with the same gas you run, the oil in the fuel is enough to oil the filter. I recommend more oil, though. If for some reason you take it off the track, the air box sucks up so much stuff. Last race in tech my carb and top side of the air box were pretty dirty.

I thought it said something like.... "clean the filter with common motor oil, and then squeze out excess."

In fact I just did this....

Rinse the air filter with gas/oil mixture, rinse with more engine oil (SAE 30) and squeeze the excess oil.

The manual spells it clear. Works fine for me.
