From the BSA site reporting the June 2 race:
"Toby Davis was clear in the lead. Having fitted a DRS system at Silverstone, he was using it again at Bishopscourt. The battery powering it weighs 3.5 kg and is activated by a switch on the steering wheel. There was a fine line between it being a help or a hindrance in weight: “My height and weight helps, otherwise it would be a problem,” Davis said afterwards. Using it on the straights gained him extra mph and he set a new lap record at 1:07.24 on his way to his first win in the championship". |

Do the Brits have their own rules and not follow the FIA/CIK rulebook?
2.7.2 – Bodywork for Superkart, KZ1 and KZ2 on
long circuits
No part of the bodywork including wings and end plates
shall:
- be higher than 60 cm from the ground (except for
structures solely designed as head-rests with no possible
aerodynamic effect),
- extend beyond the rear bumper,
- be nearer the ground than the floor tray,
- extend laterally beyond the outside of the rear and front
wheels (with the front wheels in the straight ahead posi
tion), except in the case of a wet race,
- have a width of more than 140 cm,
- have a gap of less than 25 mm between any part of the
bodywork and the tyres.
- be adjustable from the driving seat in racing condition
when the kart is in motion.
Bodywork, bubble-shield and wing must be of a nonmetallic
material. Should a complete bodywork and bubble-
shield be used, the bubble-shield shall be connected to
the bodywork by no more than four quick release clips and
shall have no other fixing device. Should the bubble-shield
be a separate structure, its maximum width shall be 50 cm

Hi Guys
Like most, the UK rules closely follow the CIK regulations. But in this instance there is no mention of the banning of moveable wings in the UK regs. I guess that perhaps when they were writing the UK regs, they either thought "nobody will do that on a Superkart", or it simply got missed.
So for the moment (at least), it's fine.
Sorry Rob, I don't have any photos, but I will take some at the British Kart GP (13/15 July) and post them.
Personally I think it's great. It adds another element to spectator interest and driver skill/enjoyment.
The boys (Toby and Ben) and their dad have put a lot of thought into the system and gathered the data to prove it's worth (with varying fixed wing positions), before coming up with the design . . . . and the DRS button on the steering wheel does look sexy!!
It's simple too. The default position is high downforce. When you press and hold the button (along the straight) the wing angle changes to minimum drag). Just release the button as you approach the braking zone and the wing returns to high downforce mode.
Don't get me wrong, it dosen't make a huge difference, but the boys enjoy the extra challenge and perhaps this alone makes a difference.
