A special Yamaha Sportsman Money Race will be offered Friday after practice at round five of the 2012 Vega / TS Racing Road Racing Series driven by Mazda, the July 27-29 VIR Nationals at VIRginia Int’l Raceway.

The Money Race is made possible by road race karting veteran and Safe Harbour Wine Storage owner “Wild” Bill Holder and Bolt Saw Service owner Jeramie Bolt, another longtime enduro kart racer.

A cool $300 will go to the winner with the second-place finisher taking home $150. Third-place will get $75, fourth-place $50 and fifth-place $25.

A neat twist to the non-points event is that both laydown and sprint-enduro Yamaha Sportsman karts are allowed to enter. The laydown-enduro minimum weight is 395 pounds while sprint-enduro karts can run at a 370-pound minimum.

While points are not offered, there will be full post-race technical inspection. Rough driving will not be tolerated and will be subject to disqualification.

Holder and Bolt put up the purse to run a similar Money Race at a Woodbridge Kart Club WKA regional event in June at Summit Point, which was won by Scott Clark, and will offer the special race at Summit this Sept. 7 on the WKA Nationals weekend.

“I’m doing this to help and support the sport of enduro karting,” “Wild” Bill Holder said. “I’ll be out there trying to win the money, like everyone else. This is about having fun, giving WKA and WKC something new to promote, and trying to help grow the sport. It was a good event at Summit last month and I think the VIR Money Race will be even better. I hope everyone gets out there and runs, and let’s have some fun and keep it clean!”

The Money Race will be 40 minutes in length and will run after Friday practice.
