My local track has a lot of broad sweepers. What kind of setup should I be using to maximize my speed? It's a pretty fast track with several high speed (40+) turns. I hit 80 and 70 on the bends/straight aways.
(shifter class, IMI raceway)

am i the only one that feels sorry after a couple days with no response? lol
well....the chassis has to be neutral and i like a wide stance on the front so i put as little steering input as possible and get a little more effect from the caster.
based on your other question....you need to set the kart up where it will be most effective for lap time. if there is a bowl leading to a straight...you better be good in the bowl....if there are many fast sweepers you best be good there. and then you might have to sacrifice gearing in the slow corners or being too stuck or too loose some where else.
i have never raced on that track but i did look at the satelite view....looks like a small fast road race track.
road racing for me was more nuetral with a wide front width....full wide on the rear...no bars ever in my crg and i would guess 10# on mgs medium hubs in the rear usually on a big track. i use the stock seat position all the time. you do realize that all and any testing needs to be done on new tires after you get a feel for what you are doing? old tires will just lead you down the wrong road. once the kart is set up....as the tires wear you will have to adjust to the loss of grip. like in a race situation.
hope this helps

40 turns? You have a track with 40 turns? That sounds awesome. Where is this track? |

Yes, 40mph+. We should make a miniature nuremburg ring!
Oscar - You don't make any changes to make the rear stiffer? You are saying that you mainly make the rear max width and keep the front relatively wide. But do you change to a stiffer axle or longer hub?
Also, I was reading in a CRG manual that they recommend running less ackerman. Do any of you guys do this?

i run a med axle on road race type stuff. i always use the out most holes on the spindles and the middle hole on the steering shaft. i would only change it if i had time during a rain race. but that is just me. i dont see the need to change the ackerman from that position.
