Agreed. There won't be any penalties issued by NASCAR but I'm sure the next time he is in a NASCAR race there will be a few drivers willing to dole out their own punishment. He was barely trying to pass guys, just rammed them from about 10MPH faster and shove them off the track. Just have to wonder if Penske will let him drive one of his cars again.

For those that didn't see it, on the last lap at RA Danica was running 4th and entering turn 5 Jacques decided it was easier to just put her in the gravel trap. Danica's crew chief, Tony Eury, Jr., stopped JV on pit road after the race to ask him what it was all about. JV's response was that Max Papis ran him into the grass right before that so he had garbage on his tires and he said he didn't care that Danica got wrecked.

Yeah, that was an obvious punt and a horrible response. Plus, he didn't even thank his sponsors.

What's funny about this is that if he would have punted anyone else, none of you would care, even in the slightest. It would be a non-issue. But because it was the almighty Danica Patrick, everyone is going to ban together and speak out against Jacques. It was a racing deal, we've seen it hundreds of times on road courses in Nascar, it happens. I can see where maybe he pushed the envelope a bit, but I can also see where he's coming from. Papis attempted to block the 22 and shoved him into the grass, and if you listened to the on board camera from the 22 during the incident, you could clearly hear the front end start to chatter in the braking zone. Either way, it was a racing incident. Nothing to ban Villenueve from Nascar over

I couldn't care less who the driver was. I'm not a big Danica fan. And yes, there was wheel hop but he has proven over and over again that he would rather wreck somebody than to pass them. Every race I have seen him run his car was all busted up on all four corners. Then to hear his attitude about it afterwards just proves how classless he is.

Getting paid to go out and play bumper cars once or twice a year and generally not giving a damn sounds like a pretty sweet gig to me.

He's kind of like the Busch brothers, except Canadian and bald, and not quite as big of a d-bag, at least in my opinion.

I didn't watch the race, but I got to see the replay's here: http://www.speedtv.com/video/speed-center/nns-danica-gets-punted-2012-1704051867001/1#_vtop

I don't see any issue with what happened. Earlier in the race, as Danica mentioned, if you "step out" of the braking zone area in turn five, it will cost you.

For JV, he was pushed off track by 'Mad Max' and the video shows that. He went just as deep into the braking zone as everyone else did, and he wheel-hopped. It's a racing deal. And if you think stopping a big ass NASCAR in turn 5 is easy, try it in a shifter kart... Wink

After watching the video, what could've JV done differently? He was downshifting like a mad man, clearly TRYING to slow the car down. We all know what getting crap on your tires will do to you in the next corner. You drop a wheel off the highway turn at New Castle, you're guaranteed to slide through the final corner, even with that long straight in the middle. Same exact thing happened here.

It wasn't intentional from the looks of it, just got in too hot. And by the looks of how far Danica went off with a relatively mild shunt from JV, she was going to go wide and at least drop a wheel on the exit of 5 anyway. She went in there pretty hot too.

People like to attack JV because let's be honest, he's kinda a d-bag. But this was pretty much a racing incident in my opinion.

Sucks for Danica.

I think what really bothered me was not the incident itself (although it did suck for Danica - she'd driven a good race and was in the top 5 nearly the entire race) but the way JV reacted afterwards. As noted, most of the fault would be on Mad Max for blocking and pushing JV off - he got to the corner with dirty tires.

But his attitude afterwards was horrible - he could have at least said he was sorry he punted Danica - that it wasn't intentional. His "I don't care if I punted someone off' attitude really turned me off - he almost sounded like he was proud if it. Evil or Very Mad

BTW, what the heck happened to his looks? I was looking at a picture of him from 1995 and he could almost qualify as a hunk - now he looks more like a meth addict Shocked

WOW TIM!!!!!!!!!!!

Laughing

That incident didn't look to be intentional. There were a few other incidents during that race where he punted guys intentionally. Michael McDowell commented how glad he was to get away from him because he figured it was a matter of time before JV took him out (paraphrasing here). Here is the actual qoute from nascar.com:
Quote:
"Jacques put it three wide, and then stopped," McDowell said. "He drove it in so far, he just stopped. I'm like, 'Man, hey, there's still a race going on here; let's go.' I just got into him a little bit, not intentionally, not blatantly.

"But, however, I did come off that corner going, 'Hooo, glad I don't have to worry about that dude any more.' I'm not trying to be a funny guy but your nerves get awful tight when the 22 is around you on these road course races. It's like indoor karting; you just never know when your buddy's going to run you over. I was glad he was far enough back that I didn't see this white lightning ball coming down into Turn 5 on any of the rest of the restarts."

Last year he ran into almost every car on the track and most all appeared to be intentional. I have no problems with guys 'leaning' on each other to get them off line to make a pass but to flat out run them off the track is unsportsmanlike.

I was at the race a few years ago and yes, he punted everyone. Like I said, he's an a-hole, especially with how he handled the incident post-race.

Kinda funny how with all the shoving he did, the only one that appeared unintentional is the one that gets talked about. Guess no matter how hard you try, you can't get away from the Danica media frenzy. Why does she have a ride again? Hasn't she won like 1 race in the past decade?

TJ
On the last lap of a road race, and some one in the top 5 gets punted, makes the headlines no matter who the driver is....
