This past week-end in Dallas my son Tyler was having problems at the start of each race at the drop of the green flag. The motor would not come up to speed for 3-4 laps and than run better. He explained it to me as if the power valve wasn't opening. We tried several different power valves and carbs with no luck......Any ideas?

Thanks
Mike Edwards

Mike, it is often the case that new power valve will stick, you need to make sure that all oil residue is removed after each session.

When you install it, make sure that the valve moves move freely by hand. If it doesn't, you may have installed it slightly crooked. Ensure that it's straight.

Also, like John said, make sure there isn't any oil in the bellow (green rubber piece) and that the passage from the engine side into the bellow is clear.

Also, check the "exhaust packing" in the pipe. It may be that the stinger (long metal piece inside) has cracked and blocked the exit path. Or it may be that the packing is interfering. Perhaps swap over for a "known good" pipe if you don't want to change the packing yourself, to confirm that's what it is.

pv blades from 09 onwards have been made crooked, ei the stud thread is on abit of an angle, and sometimes the actual blade is made bad. in aus ive seen 4 engines all with the same issue you describe - most try find an old blade to use or a better new one.
