Is there is major difference between running a 12 tooth front sproket versus a 13 tooth sproket if you adjust the rear gear for the correct ratio?

It's a ratio so as long as you adjust the other part equally it should have no effect.

This topic will probably stir up some controversy...but, here goes...

I've found the 11 tooth gear to work better on twisty and tight tracks .... the motor seems to spin up a bit better. I'm sure a physics expert can explain the actual effects of the fulcrum, inertia, etc...I won't purport to be that expert Smile However, I don't know that the smaller driver (when you have an option) is best in all situations.

I'd recommend testing each gear at your track and see if you get a different result on the stopwatch - that's the only way to know for sure.

11 tooth smaller diameter = less lever resistance against the engine = faster acceleration.

The incease in "leverage" at the driver is offset by the decrease in leverage at the axle. To put in bluntly, someone is smokin too much dope when analyzing this issue. The overall "leverage" is the RATIO.

This has been debated more times then you can count on Bob’s 4cycle forum.
Both view points, pro and con, have been posted many times.
How about testing it for us and report back. Lots of people have said they’ve tested it and both conclusions have been reported. It seems a never ending discussion.
Myself, I think many can’t calculate a gear ratio.
