|
|
Is it common/required to have foam blocks in the bowl of a carb equipped with a pump around fuel system?
Mine carb has 2 blocks of foam in the bowl (one on each side of the jets) and I'm convinced it's breaking down and clogging the jets.
If foam is not required, I will pull it out. If it is required, I need to know what kind of foam to replace it with. I'm assuming fuel cell foam will work?
Thanks for your help.

My buddy who just bought a shifter kart with a pump-around system is having the same problem. When I talked to Jim Perry at CKT about my pump-around system a few months ago, he told me the foam was supposed to be there and it isn't any ordinary foam (I would assume it is just fuel cell foam). My assumption as to why it is there is to keep the fuel from sloshing around inside the bowl. Usually you have floats to keep the fuel stable, but the floats are removed with a pump-around system. _________________ 2008 Mike Wilson with Honda CR125 shifter |

| Same, its there and is supposed to be. If you are having problems, check your fuel filter (bypass it as a quick test). |

Brad,
You probably don't have the original parts for the carb but if you do my advice is: throw away the pump around and go back to stock, put a tee in line between pump and carb, run that line back to tank and go racing. _________________ Tom Barth

I pulled the fuel system apart last night. The fuel filter was 90% plugged with foam pieces and chunks of hard crystal like stuff. Bottom of the fuel tank and all kinds of stuff floating around. Jets were plugged and the bowl was coated with foam fibers.
I cleaned everything out with carb cleaner and flushed the lines. I need to grab a new filter on my way home from work tonight. UPS says my new fuel cell foam will be at the house when I get home. Assuming that the reassembly goes well, I should be able to fire it up and test it tonight.
If it still doesn't run right, I may go with Tom's suggestion. |
