The $1000, $1500 and $5000 pledges are important but the really cool thing about the way this film is being funded is that all of us can participate. Every $25 and $50 pledge will make a difference.
Many have tight budgets and need to spend money on fuel and tires but an investment in the documentary might bring more racers for us to race against in the coming years. All of us want larger classes and more people in karting.
This is a unique way that all of us can work together to build the sport. I can't imagine a racer among us who wouldn't pay $50 to have a bigger class to race against in the coming years.
The really great news is that over 10k has been raised in 4 days. That is a great start but we need to work together to make this happen. |

Hey Curtis, sorry I took so long to reply. Im out at Miller shooting a short video for a World Superbike Team.
As of right now I plan on putting it on iTunes to sell at around $10-$12. That will mostly be to cover the cost of the musical royalties of the film. As far as mass distribution goes though... A budget of $40,000 is nowhere near what would be required to push mass distribution of a film. You could blow $40k easily on very minimal marketing. I really wish I could find a way to get this to the main stream in a big way but at this amount it is nearly impossible.
Having said that though, I have alot of faith in the team and I's work. I know the product that we could turn out will be nothing like anything karting has seen yet. I believe the film will do a good job by itself of spreading farther than any other video or film in karting. If it does well enough there is a chance that we would find a much larger budget down the road that will make a full scale production with a marketing budget worked in.
Also as Doug hinted at, wed love to go win some film festivals.
This is a big step in the right direction for karting in my eyes and the eyes of many that have and those that want to support the project. |

Would you consider posting a budget on how you came up with the $40k figure? Not saying its too much, but I think a lot of us would like to see some hard numbers on how well this money is being allotted and how the budget will be sustained over a period of time. _________________ Kyle Prokup Racing

Kyle, I think you are going to see between equipment rental, travel and expenses getting to various karting events for John and a few other cameramen, you will see that a film of this magnitude 40K is not much money. John Shofner will be doing this project and will barely cover expenses, John will be working for $0 pay.
All of us Karters should look at this as the best thing that could happen to this sport and support Shofner.
We need the type of exposure that this film could bring. We need to catch the eye of a few major sponsors who could help bring our sport some much needed recognition.
Lets all get together and help make this project a reality. Just a small amount from each racer and kart shop across the country will get it done. _________________ DRT Racing

I understand this and is thus my point. I think this would be awesome for the sport, but $40k is not a lot of money for any film that aims to hit the big screen. Phantom's and Red EPICS are extremely expensive equipment to use or rent, and I think a budgeted, sustainable plan is something that should be available for potential supporters to see, and should already be mocked together. If stockholders of a company never received annual reports, I'm sure shareholders would be dropping left and right.
I'm 100% for this project, and if I was located on the West Coast I would be more than excited to help for free. Unfortunately, I'm in college and cant contribute too much of anything besides my own time to. Just trying to expand idea's. Hopefully a mainstream corporate backer jumps on the production soon; karting has the potential to be a unique extreme sport that a company would want to be associated with. _________________ Kyle Prokup Racing

Heck yea, give it a try - personally I can't see how this thing is even struggling! What are there, like 20 thousand users in this forum and typically 100 online at any time, yet only 66 are showing any support for John? That's crazy.
Seems like we have all whinned about building the sport at one time or another, tried to get our family and friends to the track, tried to explain that a "go-kart" is no longer just a "go-kart" or how that "we" as karters are a tight knit group of weekend warriors!
Now we've got a guy who is more than qualified to represent us in a light that no one else has been able to do (or even tried to do), and we've only got 66 takers? In looking a the "pledge" options, I can't imagine how more manufacturers, retailers or teams are jumping all over this thing! There's only one big $$ taker that can see the advertising jackpot here?!
The potential for this thing is awesome - but time is in the second half and the $$ isn't - come on folks - this is for all of us as "karters"! Let's make this happen! The project title should say it all! _________________ TVS Motorsports -
