Hey guys,
Hopefully without starting a debate, what year Rotax engine should a guy look into purchasing? I'm asking for strictly performance reasons, budget is not the factor. I have heard that 2010 models are the way to go, however, I'm not sure why I have been told that. Does Rotax switch engine models every year like the Leopards? Are there performance advantages with the 2010 model over previous models? I also heard to make sure to get a Rotax with the "new style" clutch. |

If wanting to buy used, buy one that has been RACED in a Rotax sanctioned RMC event in the last 3-6 months. It would more than likely have the current upgraded clutch, airbox, etc..to make it legal for RMC events. Plus it would be in shape to run. Not clogged up carb, fuel sytem, water system, etc... Expect to pay $2000 or more to keep you from having any headaches from sitting a long time, having non compliant parts, being wore out, etc...
Buy from a reputable shop that services Rotax engines and has access to parts and knowledge about the product.
Or just buy new and save on any thoughts. What you get with that is:
1 year warranty
All current parts
No time or wear on the engine
Totally technically compliant
Ready to rock.
If new is not an option, make an educated decision and buy from someone that isn't just leaving the sport. Many times you just pickup their troubles that made them leave in the first place. Buy good stuff recently raced.

If budget isn't an option, I agree with Curtis....buy new. If you want to race it in Rotax events, you need the new cylinder, clutch and airbox anyway.
Cylinder and cluth are expensive as hell if you need to upgrade.
Warranty on a racing engine. How can you pass that up? |

| Warranty can only be invoked if you ruin the entire engine but not on piece failures such as clutch, seal etc. |
