I have an 8 year old who will experience karting for the first time. He will be running SCCA JB. I have a KT100 with the WB3A carb installed, rules state I would have to add a .600 restrictor plate. Or, he could run the WA55B. I have the carb, just need the intake manifold and the filter adapter kit.

Is there a "better" option? Is one easier to tune/keep running?

Any help/discussion is appreciated.

Thank you.

If you get the WA55 carb set up, set it so it won't quite idle and won't quite stall when going off throttle at the end of a long straight. Then don't touch it. It's really a pretty good carb once you get it dialed in.

I can't speak to the WA3 with restrictor, but I imagine that it would be just as, or more, compromised than the W55.

Put a new plug in, set the WA55 to 1/8 turn on High and 2 1/4 turns on Low and try it out. Little movements can make big differences, so move in 1/16 type increments.

Hi Keith,

We were the quickest JB KT100 at last year's nats, and the small carb works great once you learn how to set the 2 screws. At this point I would run it on the richer side to prolong engine life. Once he needs more power you can lean it out some. You''ll prob want a Mychron to monitor head temp/fuel mixture. I also found the the motor runs rich until it heats up, so I turn the low in for the first run.
Brian G. can provide much more info, if he sees this thread.

Rick

Thanks Guys...

So, I've decided to go with the WA55B.

I may see Brian G. this weekend, taking the kids the WDCR kart school, I think he is usually there. He has already helped me tremendously.

Thanks again.
