I have a stock Animal , that I am going to run some track tests on gasoline. The factory valve settings are .008 intake, .016 exhaust. These seem very conservative. I was planning to use .004 intake, .006 exhaust as a starting point. Any comments/help would be appreciated
TIA

John,
you are correct, too conservative.
I found .3 HP on my brake dyno by just lashing up the valves. If this is any indication, (my dyno is very conservative) I would expect big things on the track. Since the flywheel is so light, it revs like a limited.
What say? Jr II next year not superstock at SoCal. But instead animal on VP red with a broached cam and stock key in the flywheel?
I know of 5 drivers right now, and can find more. |

| Thanks for the info guys. I belive I will be moving Katelynn up to JR II next year. John are you talking about a JR II class with the animal, or a senior class. I like the engine and really like the fact you can actually adjust the valves. |

John
I have 5 people who are just waiting for the news about classes for next year. The Jr II superstock class has had zero participation this season. I think the animal would be a good class for the faster Jr II drivers to run. I am still testing and will be on track later this month with one. After I get a better handle on the Pavesi. I have talked with some of the other builders, and my opinion is that the rules for the animal right now are too loose. I would at least opt for a Junior class that runs the easyspin cam and specs for it. The motor that cleaned the Senior Star class at one race had the aftermarket cam and was running on methanol. The other item is run the motors on race gas, it eliminates the methanol maintence and also is easy to tech. If so inclined, make the fuel what is sold at the track, I can't see somebody complaining about buying one gallon of fuel for a race day, but then again, somebody will know more than me.
I went through the fiasco with the 80cc shifters, write the rules strict now, it is easier to loosen them than it is to reel them back in.
IMHO, this is a great motor for club level racing. The buy in is not too expensive and if you have any existing 4 cycle equipment you are basically set to go.
If you still have the motor from me for Katelynn, let me know when she moves up.
I can get you some info to run Jr II. |
