Just thought I would see if anyone reading these posts also has been building any animal motors? If so have you been running the expander ring for the oil ring as stock? I see a large amount of ring pressure with it that way and have been cutting it down in circumfrance to reduce this drag. any thoughts?

I still have my brand new motor in the box. I am trying to get through this season with my H-50"s tecs. I am going to run some tests for our local club with a box stock animal on gas to see how we can fit it into our existing class structures with the least amount of pain to our members.

John, The cheapest testing you could do would be to pick up the phone and call chuck from Century Performance in Denver. He has outfitted over a dozen gas Animals on race chassis and is using them for everyday public rentals. I feel that for raceing the cheapest and less painfull thing to do with a race motor is to run it on Meth. It keeps the motor cooler, burns cleaner, and is easier to tech, Plus it gives you more power for free. Does your track run under any of the National sanctioning bodies rules or insurance IKF/WKA? I hope the two continue to right matching rules as this motor develops over the next few years. One problem in the rules is that they don't alow any material removal around the spark plug hole. In order to fit a regular CHT sensor to the plug you need to do something here. There answer is to buy an EGT which is better but does add coast. When burning gas temp can become a bigger problem. One other somewhat common problem is that the header is long and with the muffler added to the end it has alot of leverage against the header bolts. Most headers do come with a brace that really doesn't support it very well. I made a bracket out of a 2 cycle expansion pipe hanger that clamps around the muffler, works well. Get your motor out of the box and on a kart and you will like your season even better. Good Luck!

Hello all, just found the link to this site on 4cycle.com, what a neat site, they said you 4-cycle guys needed help here, so here we are!! I have been running an Animal in Georgia on the dirt for the last two months now, and we have had very good luck with it. Running Methanol, timing advanced, and using the Dyno AN001 cam, usually turn it around 7400, and what FUN. Nothing broke yet but a header brace, I am running a one off header that Studier Kart Supply made for me and it works great. Alot of folks are running the Roberstons Super Snake and it seems to be a good pipe too. Dover Power makes a shorty pipe for them that I have heard say is good on larger tracks. We generally run 1/5 mile tracks. The head temp issue I solved by contacting Digatron and they are converting tachs for anyone who sends one to them for around $50 bucks. What they do is add an EGT function to it and include the TT102 temp lead which allows you to read CHT with it. The only thing you have to do to the engine is make a slight grind in the cylinder shroud to allow the spring wire to come out behind the plug. Other than that, its been great fun and VERY competitive. Good Luck and Safe Racing
