John you work to much! And Sam, I was thinking the same thing, then again, those Englishmen like to drink abit, maybe they got started early! Monterey is a pretty cool place to do that. |

Look who's talking Mr. Benson!
Actually it isn't work that's keeping me home this time.
It's a badly broken engine from Buttonwillow that I couldn't
get back in one piece in time. |

Hi Guys
OK the free wi-fi has been discontinued and now we have to pay!!
Everything is looking good so far, we had 3 practice sessions in quick succession yesterday and have had one this morning.
2 more today at 1.30pm and 1st quali at around 4.45pm
I haven't seen any big disasters yet and everyone is enjoying the sunshine, although a bit breezy today.
Sam, Dean is using his det counter and your harness. It's all good and working well.
We have a bit of a problem with part throttle detonation, so have made a few changes that will help with this, Dean is also complaining of poor braking performance (and using the engine to supplement them). Consistant 12,800 on the downchange is a little excessive.
JR had a bad misfire this morning, so Ted has changed the full ignition system and we'll have to see what happens in the next session.
Looks like Karl Wilson is quickest so far, his Anderson/DEA sounding sweet and the boys are just getting it dialled in.
More later,
Best Regards

Hi Guys
Out for quali in 30 minutes.
Top 3 in the last practice were:
Karl Wilson in the 1:28's (Anderson/DEA FE)
Dean Martin in the 1:33s (Anderson/Viper Honda)
Anthony Williams in the 1:34s (Anderson/Rotax 257)
JR was still struggling with the Anderson GasGas, but it looks like he may now have it sorted. A change of carburettor and sorting out an "air-in-the-fuel" issue, should see him in good shape for quali.
Below you can see Ted Dale , with the white decal on his shirt acknowledging the fact that Hondas are indeed the No: 1 single :
Dean will be starting quali with a new set of Hoosiers installed and running the same curve we ran in practice. The plan is to set a time on that setup, then try a couple of laps on an alternative ignition curve and perhaps a change to a larger main jet at the end of the session, if we get time.
We sorted the partial throttle detonation and are now just seeing a few dets at the end of the fastest straights.
More after quali
Best Regards

.
Best of luck to all drivers, tomorrow.

Hi Guys
Morning warm-up is completed. Not everyone took to the track, but those that did were mainly scrubbing in tyres or checking alterations made since yesterday's race.
JR set the fastest time of the weekend so far in the 1:26's, so looking good for the main event.
Finishing order of race one was:
1st Karl Wilson
2nd J R Osborne (Jr was running in a new piston in the race and just gradually worked his way up to 2nd as his pace increased).
3rd Anthony Williams
4th Dean Martin (who suffered a worsening misfire attributed to a faulty quickshifter and confirmed as cured in the morning warm-up).
4th Jim Ingram
Best Regrds

Hot off the phone to Ted, JR and Karl Wilson were having a great race, JR was in front with 4 laps to go and put a hole in his piston.
JR did the fastest race laptime plus put his kart on Pole Position in Qual using a GAS GAS.
Karl Wilson from NZ won the race with his DEA, congratulations to Karl Wilson, my understanding his kart went like clockwork all weekend.
Dean Martin won the ICE class with his Viper Racing Honda CR250, congrats Dean.
That's all I know for now. _________________ www.samzavaglia.com |
