Welcome to the 4-Cycle forum! We have heeded the request of many to include this area of discussion for the types of motors that represented the genesis of karting and may very well hold its future.
We encourage everyone viewing the forums to keep an eye here, as with all the boards, to find out the latest hot topics in the world of 4-Cycle karting.

Well somebody needs to post, so I'll ask a question.
How many people that subscribe to this forum have raced four cycles? Speedway, Sprint, Road Race, whatever.
What tracks and when?

Well, I started in 4-Cycles, sort of. My introduction to karting was through the Hearn Six Hour Endurance races, which run Briggs. It's a blast, and gave me a taste of what karting was all about.
Rich supplies the motors for all the teams, so he has to prep about 18 motors for the day's race. |

WOW......
a 4 cycle forum........here in Southern Cal......I'm impressed.
Yes, I have witnessed Team Bonneville!!!
When they were in their infancy, some unamed RotaxMax racers did run 4 cycles.
In Southern California it is slim pickings.
Mainly stock Jr. classes run Sprint.
I think even at Rialto they ran quadrastrokes around the oval.
IMHO to get started, 4 strokes can teach alot in a short period of time. |

I started racing running Brigg`s Superstock with So-cal at Adam`s. I also ran a Tecumseh STAR that could turn lap times equal to Superbox, even with a fifty pound weight difference.
About 35-40% of the present So-Cal entries are 4-cycle! That`s out of 120-140 entries per race day.

I tell you, we miss those Hearn races. With the site and our Rotax schedule, we haven't been able to run since December (we won). We're REALLY bummed we can't make the August race at Adams at night.
Hopefully we can do a November or December race and show all the teams that have arrived since our sabbatical the terror of having Brian Stiver or Jeff Franz behind them.

I ran Limiteds, Opens and Outlaw in the 80's here in Phoenix with PKRA (sprint) and AKA (speedway). Stars in Region 7 at Adams and Oxnard. Super Stock Laydown with WKA at Daytona. Even tried running a mild Limited on a laydown at Big Willow. Then went to Yamahas and then Shifters. Currently have a 250 ICE style kart. But now I'm going to find out what I can get out of a Briggs Vanguard at the Road Race tracks. Should be interesting.

| Ran stock out-board hydro-planes '55-'59, went drag racin in J stock '55 Ford sta. wagon (26 trophys 1st.yr.) to AA/FD in '68-'71, N.E. Dirt Modifieds '79, Karting in'80 with Macs. to Yams. and Parillas. Thenj Briggs in '84 stuck there ever since. But sporaticly, trying to get the newer technology straight before re-starting. Build almost all engines and other parts along the way. Sometimes think I enjoy building more than racin, nah, just kiddin. |

| We started in karting 16 years ago, came from a 2 cy backround ,(snowmobiles), we started with Briggs and have been there ever since, we had a few yamahas and tried shifters afew times but enjoy the challenge of building the motor in the 4 cy class, rules are much more open, many cams to choose from for different tracks, ports are basicly open and the valve spring tecnology has been a challenge. The Kids have had some luck in both sprint and enduro, we hit a few ovals each season but haven't begune to master that chassis set up yet. We've spent the last year and 1/2 running Intek OHV's, very impressive motors, have 190 (F200) 206 (Animals) and a 305 cc., you can put together a mod 206 for about $600 and run with the yamaha pipes all day long. Yhere starting to take off out here, was wondering if you guys see many out in Calif. Bob |
