Torn on a new suit, mine has a big rip in the leg but its like having A/C on hot days. Wondering if not wearing multiple layers of towels could be an advantage some days Smile

Are there any suits that are much cooler than others? I bought a Cik level 2 Shift suit and in the summer the time between suiting up and actually running seems like forever! I do unzip the front and leave it open till the last. If there in one thing better about autoxing cars this is it!

I bought a K1 Evo X suit, the White one, and I love it. It has vents in the crotch and the chest, and it is amazing the difference between it an my old heat stroke suite. (Both are L2)

I have the Sparco X Light and it is much cooler than my old Astars KMX7 (I think thats the designation). However, at a very hot pro solo and tour, I noticed the veteran Paul was wearing jeans and a kart jacket saying it was much less hot to wear than a suit. I've worn my suit here in the desert all summer long and while its hot, I never felt overheated if that makes sense so I like it. Paul D did get hot in his X Light so he is talking about trying a bike jacket/jean setup next summer.

Try the Dainese light mash jacket and a pair of light jeans from PacSun. They weigh last than 2 lbs total, including a T-shirt and yes, underwear. With a thin neck collar is the most comfortable yet legal outfit IMHO.

With a light helmet and karting shoes, the total extra weight other than kart and driver is about 6-7 lbs total.

I took Danny's advice and got a mesh motorcycle jacket for the warm/hot weather. It makes a huge difference in comfort.

What do jeans or knees look like after hitting pavement at 70 mph? I saw 68 even messing around in my Rotax last year at an autox. Never say never. I came within inches of flipping my civic a few years ago at an Autox. Thats something I never thought could happen.

I'm far more worried about getting run over than flipping over my kart or getting ejected. If this was wheel to wheel racing, naturally I'd respond differently. You can worry about anything you want though.

Not much different than someone wearing a kart suit would look, I'm afraid. If protection from that remote possibility is what you desire, go to motorcycle leathers, the only real way to come away from a pavement experience without losing skin. Sebastian Strauss wears leathers, but he is the only guy running F125 that does, to my knowledge. You think a kart suit is hot on a 95 degree day? Shocked

My suit has inserts at most contact points and is multi layered and it is hot, probability not as hot as leathers though. Apparently from your remark some Kart suits are just a single layer like jeans?

Um, some are, and some are lined, therefore being two layers. And I think that not many have armor at the exposed joints like knees, elbows, and shoulders. I personally wear hard shell elbow pads, but only because I tend to bonk the right one on the motor. They would not stay in place if I contacted the pavement, I don't think. And the wrestling-style knee pads I wear under the suit are to keep me from bruising against the tank/shift mount. They would not help against concrete or asphalt either.

I am simply stating the lightest and the most comfortable gear allowed by the rules in autox; exactly like a lot of States allow to ride motorcycle without a helmet. Everybody takes his/her own risk; if you worry about getting hurt, protect yourself; if you want comfort, you are welcome to try my setup.

This is from a guy that fell of the track twice on a motorcycle, and landed on my head twice in a motocross jump resulting in two concussions and two ruptured discs on my spine. I was wearing full leathers and back protectors on the track, and the full outfit with chest protectors and pads while riding on dirt. Getting hurt sucks, but I am willing to take that risk in autocross in exchange for comfort. Jeans and light jacket were only there to protect yourself from from motor and exhaust heat, and that's about all they are good for. JMHO.
