Thinking about trying these and was wondering if anybody has any reviews on them. Are they comparable to Bridgestone ect...

Hello Mike, the Maxxis SLR is similar to the Bstone YKC.

Very consistent, great wear and heat cycle well.

My experience is that they are a pretty thick tire that's got a rental kart tire stiffness to it and they take a long time to heat up. I think they are mostly used on dirt tracks with various preps. This is from 10 years ago so maybe they are different now.

Hello Walt, there are quite a few different compounds that Maxxis makes in the 5" line these days:

Raptor - concession kart tire - indoor and outdoor - harder compound, long lasting - great for this application

HG1 - between a concession tire and race tire - great for driving schools, and really good for the Chonda classes

HG3 - pretty good race tire - long lasting, great wear, reasonably fast, heat cycle well and fast to the cords

SLR - I tested 3 tenths quicker than HG3 in a Tag kart (heavy), fast, consistent and heat cycles well

I know that "way" back in the day, Maxxis was making tires very heavy and hard. These days................MUCH better.

Please see the short video

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kGWaIgVzDk8

I ran the Maxxis HG3 in a Rotax event against the other drivers on Mojos. Also, in this video.............I am the ONLY driver weighing 405 pounds (Masters weight)............the other competitors are at 365 pounds (Senior weight).

Considering that I gave them 40 pounds................the results are decent.
