Hopping in a Rotax? WTH?
So I was out at NCMP earlier and one of the Jr. classes (micro mini midget max or something) was running. These kids were bouncing up & down more than the ping pong balls in the main building.
Now I understand it coming off a turn to unweight the rear & all, but these kids were bouncing all the way down the straight - and not just a little - some of them were probably 6" off the seat.
Is there something specific to the Rotax that makes this work?

FWIW, I saw a number of guys get passed while bouncing by guys that weren't bouncing so it must not help a whole lot. And it looked kinda goofy...

Just curious...

With the minimax, there is a spec gear. If you bounce, you can get the motor into the 'second powerband' or as the kids call it, "turbo." If you dont get to it, you're done.

.... and it should be noted that R-max has banned this technique in all Rotax classes now. Our club enforces this rule in every rotax class and makes all drivers aware that they will be disqualified if they are caught doing so. We are allowed one time to pull ourselves up and outta the seat one time on corner exit but more than one and your done.

Now we're regulating driving techniques Question

My dad showed me back in 1977 how the smooth drivers were always faster. If we're to the point where people aren't even allowed to select an appropriate gear ratio I'm not sure what we're teaching young drivers.

Just plain silly Crying or Very sad

JMHO,

its so dumb dad who doesn't know anything about gearing can focus on tuning the carb and chassis and yelling at his kid . Laughing

Also if your mini isn't hitting turbo it isn't tuned right. Bouncing makes no difference.

MAXSpeed Group rescinded that rule after the U.S. Nationals. There is no longer a "no hopping" rule at any official RMC event.

However.......safe driving standards rules are, and will be enforced if needed. Shocked

Here's how you solve the problem...

Give all the corner workers giant Whack-a-Mole hammers and if somebody pops up, the corner worker clobbers them!
