It's that time again as karters from all across the country and globe travel to the Quad Cities area for the annual Rock Island Grand Prix. This year marks the 17th running of the event with a new attitude and direction. Four categories will be running for big prize money with all categories competing for the coveted 'Rock' trophy.

Information can be viewed by the latest news release by the RIGP: HERE.

eKartingNews.com will be providing its Trackside Live coverage of the event Saturday and Sunday. The www.ekartingnews.com/live page will offer those unable to attend the chance to feel like they are along the fences. Race call of Qualifying and the Main Events by EKN's own Rob Howden will be heard thanks to the EKN Trackside Live supporters you see displayed on the page. Race-Monitor.com has partnered with EKN to provide live timing of the event. And if you missed something, you can catch up on all the updates via the Official Forum Thread here and the daily reports.

If you have any questions or comments, please be sure to publish them here. Enjoy the coverage and happy Labor Day weekend.

Already?! Dang, I better get crackin on finishing my stuff. I skipped last year and about wept through EKN's live coverage.

Looking forward to hanging out with the GP Racing guys in the Argus Lot. They’ll have a trailer load of parts if you need anything, including a welder - which I hope nobody needs!

They’re having a “Most Bent” contest for a free steering column. They’ll collect bent columns from racers who buy a replacement from GP Racing USA at the track. At the end of the weekend they’ll dig through the pile, and whoever owns the most twisted column gets their money back. The more you hit those tough boxes, the more chances you have to win... this contest anyway.

It’s gonna be a great weekend. Weather looks solid.
Just 24 hours til we hit the road!

They are unloading the fencing and barrels, the banners are being hung, the downtown is starting to come to life! We are loaded and ready to roll for the long haul from our shop to the RIGP staging area. Actually it is only a 5 minute drive for us as we live here!! Safe travels to all!

Could have used this in '09. Sucked into the barrier at about 70mph. That thing was twisted every which way, I probably would have won.

GL to all those competing, sorry I couldn't make it this year.

Hey Eric,
eKartingNews is planing to make timing available via Race Monitor for the event, but I'm not sure when they will start sending the live timing.

You will see a "Live" graphic next to the RIGP event in the directory when they're sending data.

Regards,
Mark Lubischer

EKN TRACKSIDE: SATURDAY WELCOME

Good morning everyone. Welcome to the 2011 Rock Island Grand Prix. Practice is underway for this years event with the first round of sessions nearly complete. The weather is hot and sticky, as the humidity is very high. The clouds are covering the area so the sunshine is not too bright. We will keep an eye on the weather all day. I have yet to chat with drivers about this year's track, so we will get you that information later.

Live audio is set to begin at 1:45pm CDT when qualifying begins. Those with the Race-Monitor app, the live timing will be turned on shortly.

Enjoy the weekend coverage.
