| What happened in S4 Saturday? I thought Campbell won! Penalty for what? Did McCrybaby have to appeal or was it a SKUSA call? What does it say about a so called series who penalizes a guy who comes and runs with them a few times a year and beats their poster baby and they penalize him so their guy can win. I smell a RAT! Kudos to Campbell and the whole team going home and standing up for what is right. Several of us were wanting to come out to Vegas this year to try our hat at S4 but what is the point in making that kind of financial commitment to a run in a hillybilly jacked up series as that! |

Chad,
It would be better to comment if you were actually here. Just so you know, EVERYONE makes a financial commitment when they come to a race, and when they do, they MUST put the on-track results into the hands of the race director.
This was a very tough call by the officials, but the final decision falls into line with virtually every organization I've every seen in action. If you make contact with the driver in front of you for a reason they deem to be your doing, which they call 'avoidable contact', you will finish behind the driver who is damaged by the contact. In this case, on the final lap, Campbell ran into the back of McNeil in a corner where you simply cannot pass. Not one pass was made there all weekend. I've heard both sides...1) Campbell hammered McNeil by diving into the corner, or 2) McNeil 'parked it' in the corner and the contact happened. Regardless of either, the contact happened and SKUSA's Race Management team came up with a final call. Yes, the initial call was protested, but that's why there are protests. When the position was stated, SKUSA elected to change the on-track decision. It happens in racing ALL THE TIME. Some times you're on the winning end, sometimes your not. The key is to respect the decision of the Race Director, because if you don't, you've just eliminated any ability for yourself to properly utilize the system.
There's nothing lamer than to slam a Race Director for making one call and then plead with them the next day to get one yourself.
Scratch that. You what was more lame, the actions and comments of a few of the people at the podium presentations who booed when Campbell was announced in second and McNeil in first. In my 18 years in the sport, I have NEVER been more disappointed. It was disgusting, and I have lost ALL respect for the people in question. I'm normally a three-strike kind of guy, but this brutal. I spoke with so many people after the race that felt the same way.
Racing is hard, tough decisions always need to be made, and I believe that the measure of a man is how they deal with the bad stuff, not how they enjoy the good. _________________ Rob Howden

My apologies to David, as this last post was from me and not him. David was still logged in on my computer after using it yesterday, and I simply forgot to change it over.
That said, my comments above regarding the booing are by no means directed towards Jason Campbell, but instead to the people who actually booed. Jason was not part of this. In fact, he was standing on the complete other side of the crowd. Nor was I stating that Jason intentionally made contact with Jimmy. I actually missed viewing the contact as I was walking outside of the tower to get a straight on view of turn 10, which is where I figured the pass would come.
All that I am stating is that calls get made, right or wrong, and we've got to live with them. And to think that there are any favoritism here in just wrong. I know that for a fact. _________________ Rob Howden
