The drag strip portion has been resurfaced, but what about the rest of the road course? Would like to race there, but broken ribs and loose fillings are no fun.

Thanks for all replies.

Not as bad as BlackHawk, eh? Boy that still covers a lot of ground!! Last time we ran there we broke a frame and we ain't been back since!

You do know that a couple of years ago the the name of IRP was changed, don't you? It was renamed Ibuprofen Raceway Park!!!

Well,

Looks like having all the wrap around deepseat and nice ribtect tricks will be keys to survival eh?

I haven't raced there in quite some time...not since I ran the lay-down there, and it was pretty rough. I really didin't think blackhawk was all that bad though, even though I found a few cracks in the motor mount.

I have heard that there is typically quite a few entries for that event right? Who will be there?

Not us, we will be at a smoother, purpose built road course that weekend...Gingerman!

Rough tracks are all relative. If you want to race, you gotta do it. I remember "crashing" into the banking at Rockingham when you leave the infield road course and enter the oval at turn four. Or how about when you leave the tri-oval at Pocono to get to the infield road course. Talk about getting air. My body is getting too old for this. If there are ANY bumps on the track, the karts will find them. Charlie, can I follow Ted so I can find that "smooth" line around Gingerman?
Thanks,
Dan

Dan, I said "smoother". not smooth! While not as bad as some others, Ted said it was getting a few rough spots last year. Haven't been on it this year yet, so will have to see whether another winter and race season has taken any more of a toll on it. 'sides...I think Ted will follow the fast line even if it ain't the "smoothest".

I will be at Gingerman also. I believe a member of Indy Kart Club is checking on the conditions of IRP but have not heard anything. You can ask Greg Wright, he only lives two blocks away, if that. I know they didn't repave anything besides the drag strip, you could tell by the aerial shots of the US Nationals.

Gingerman is somewhat rough in some of the corners but the straights are very smooth.

I was able to walk most of it this weekend at the US Nationals and yes, the drag strip is very smooth. All I have to say about the rest of it is I'm glad I'm going to Gingerman. I thought Grattan was bad, this place looks like a real chassis breaker. I have never driven it and while I was there it obviously wasn't set up to run the road course but the run off areas didn't look like they were going to be very safe either.

I'm with Charlie. It's brutally rough. Especially in 1-4 and through the parking lot. I've lost starter nuts on the Yamaha, broken seat struts, cracked ribs, and I never even hit anything! I used to wear my glasses there instead of contacts, but the bouncing really made vision a trick!

The track layout is kind of neat, but it really needs a facelift.

Like David, I'm "hoping" to hit Gingerman instead.

I am really surprised so many people won't be there... for some reason, even with all the complaints of being rough, IRP draws a LOT of entries year after year.

There were over 45 last year and there should be at least that this year.

Corey and Frank Clayton will be at Gingerman as it is a WKA regional race and has oppertunity for national status not like the IRA. The track is smoother except in some of the braking corners. I am sure we will get a lot of frames to fix after Indy.
