Hello folks, man I need to go do some yard work or... change the gearbox oil ya know. But anyways, I've made some karting HotBars for the IE browser. If you havent heard of these, the 'skins' replace that drab ole grey browser area with a graphical treat for your eyes. As a matter of fact I'll take a screen shot right as I type so you can see what I'm talking about.
Click here for the pic: http://photos.yahoo.com/teampaultracy
Then look for the Browser folder, once inside click the pic twice for a 800x600 view.

Also while yer' there, click the HotBar folder for some more HotBars

Anyways, I dig playin with the graphics when I get some free time and beeings that this is my home from home, I thought I'd share them with ya.

If you like them, would like to see some created etc. email me and maybe I can turn some out. Its a BIG way to promote a company etc because the site (in which to get the HotBar skins to work http://www.hotbar.com has thousands of them and from people all over the world D/L them to be used, its free advertising.

I'm working on getting karting skins permenantly in the "Wheels" (racing) section of HotBar.

Enjoy and if you need any help, feel free to drop me an email.

Now wheres that damn lawn mower

Tony:

Thanks for the links. Just one piece of information for those that do or plan on using the 'hotbar' functionality. These are more than just 'skins.' As is detailed in the terms of use, your use of the Internet (as far as web browsing) and any information you enter/submit (in search engines, perhaps more?) is harvested by this company to perform targeted ad insertion, etc.

While many companies maintain that your information is secure, not sold or transferred, and not personally correlated with any personal data, you the consumer should be aware that your rights to privacy are violated every day. Companies get bought and sold, and so does the information these companies have collected, regardless of the 'privacy guarantees' they claim to enforce.

I make my living as an Information Warfare Network Security Specialist, so I witness the abuse of this sort of technology daily.

I don't mean to alarm anyone with any conspiracy theories, but I think it is important to realize what you are agreeing to when you use software such as this.

Make sure you read the Terms of Use BEFORE you download and use software like this.

My $0.02.

Chris

Hmmmm... thats interesting to say the least. Thanks a bunch! I personaly was aware of this before I did the HotBar thing. But really, if you want to get some cool stuff in your browser Hot Bar is a great thing. I mean its a worldwide thing..... But I do see your point. IMHO the fact of getting some eye-candy in the browser fair out weighs what HotBar see's.

That leads me to this: and EVERYONE needs to read this and maybe Mr. Hoff can elaborate on this. It sounds like its your proffesion regarding what you talked about but I've only known about it for a year. But when you visit sites, some of them 'inject' software called "SpyWare" into your computer. You don't even know about it ever. Then I ran accross the SpyWare software detection software. After I ran it, I found over 60 yes 60 different 'things' going on in the background of the browser?!?!?!?!? It's like beeing watched, it was shocking to say the least man.

Sorry to get off the subject of karting but I'll bet hardly anyone knows about this stuff and its benificial to ALL of us here in the karting community, hell everyone that uses the internet for that matter.

Admin, I hope this doesn't get edited or deleted but if it does, I understand FULLY.

SpyWare SUCKS and I bet its on everyones computer that is in this forum.

Heres the link to get the software that detects all the "SpyWare" running in your browser: http://download.cnet.com/downloads/0-10106-100-6372708.html

Sorry again for the off topic, but its a "heads up" for all of us.

Ad-Aware is definitely well worth the price (free!) It's an excellent way to determine what, if any, software or "informative leaks" have been installed on one's system.

I suggest that everyone take stock of what is actually installed on their machines and invest in some sort of firewall technology -- from a personal firewall like Black Ice/Zone Alarm to full-fledged packet filters like those commonly bundled with DSL/Cable Routers these days.

Personally, I utilize both when at home at the end of my xDSL connection. With an Intrusion Detection system sniffing packets on the outside of my firewall AT HOME, I regularly see 5-10 port scans (intelligence gathering techniques) per day!

I am sure there are many other computer professionals who use this service who could also recommend solutions, and if anyone would like further information, feel free to contact me privately so as not to earn a target on Glenn's Hit List
