One big thing Memo has going for him is Publicity. The man is always getting his name dropped at every televised show with highlights and great compliments.
From Target's perspective they have to be VERY pleased with Memo.
Keep On Keeping On... Go Memo! |

Alesi is back in a decent position and is unlikely to leave F1 right now.

He is in a much better position with Jordan, and signed for 2002, but as events of the last week show, most anything is possible.
I'd like to see Memo in the other Ganassi seat, but I'd bet other guys, like Dixon, are also on the short list.

| Darren, it is not "amount of laps led" that is important. It is which lap(s) you lead! Think about it! You only need to lead one lap to come away on top! |

Scott, I would have to agree with that, really not even one lap.

My guess is if it were a done deal, he would have signed him already. The "done deal" guys on the other teams have started signing.
They are talking about this on CART Radio right now (along with a karting event there last night). In the "slow" session, it was Junqueira and Memo, until the last lap, where Memo bumped him by half a second. It's raining......
Could be the Chipster is waiting to see which F1 refugees, IRL defectors or leftovers from Lights might become available. Rumor has it Jean Alesi and Johnny Herbert are looking at Champ Car rides.

| Memo's flip at RA happened right behind ort booth, I was standing on the fence, not sure what started it but he cane out of the bridge 6 ft in the air, nose came down first, stuck in the soft ground and slammed him on his top, wow, what a hit, I was 30 ft away and it just shook the ground. Last report from the track was possible leg fracture. didn't get home in time to see the news. Also must add, this was the first time I saw the CART saftey team in action, very, very disapointing, Bob |

With a broken legg, what does that do to his chances?
Bob, tell us more about the safety crew.

While I didn't see the crash live (I was listening on CART Radio, and saw the tape delay), I have to disagree with Bob about the CART safety team being disappointing. I've seen them in action first hand, while listening to them on the safety channel for at least the last 9 or 10 years.(didn't get the scanner until about 4 years ago) These guys are full on pros, no question.
It seemed to take about 10 mins or so to extract Memo from the badly damaged car. With a crash that horrific, you can't just pull the driver from the tub without knowing the extent of the injuries. CART Dr Olvey arrived at the scene in the ambulance, and I presume, to supervise the extraction. According to Dr Olvey, Memo was alert, and talking to his rescuers.
The CART safety crew is first rate, traveling with one of two world class surgeons that specialize in racing accidents, Dr Olvey, and the highly respected Dr Terry Trammel. CART also has a state of the art trauma center, that travels with the event. NASCAR doesn't even do this.
CART does make some boneheaded moves at times, for instance starting the race with a small river flowing across one of the fastest part of the track. Even so, the persons that respond to the danger, are nothing but first class, and saying anything different, just isn't true.
Memo suffered a small fracture on a non weight bearing portion of his femur, and according to rpm.espn.com, may be able to race in Vancouver in a couple of weeks. I'll be there cheering him on.
Other Memo news...
In the new Racer, when asked what he would save if his house were on fire....his kart. Also said that the big teams should pay more attention to karting.

| What suprized me most was slow response, the first person there was a corner worker, to anyone familier with RA their is a central part of the track, between corner 5 on the inside and 13-14 on the outside, this is a large area and the saftey trucks are stationed here, at no time would the saftey trucks have to even enter the race track to have gotten to the wreck. The first corner worker their was yelling to the turn 5 area that the driver was not responding, someone yelled fire, I think this came from a spectator on the fence, there was some smoke and/or steem, but I did not see flames, the corner worker ran back to his stand and got an ext. and set it off under the car, by this time saftey worker were walking, walking not running to the wreck, about this time the saftey trucks began to arive. It looked like 8 -10 men tried to flip the car over but were unable to do so, it took several more min. for a truck with a cable to arive to right the car. Let me be clear on this, I've been a Board dir. at our local track for many years, and have had to respond to quite a few red flags, I'M SURE that once the saftey people arived they new what to do and how to do it, my disapointment was in how long it took to happen, espesialily with its close proxsimity to the saftey area, had the fire been worse or the driver suffer masive bleeding the situation could have been much worse. Now on to a much briter topic, Briggs & Stratton were nice enough to allow me to promote our track out of their booth all weekend, WOW what a responce, two of us spent 3 days introducing people to kart racing, we passed out 5 cases of Karting guides and track info, and talked to hundreds and hundreds of people, suprizeingly (?) many did not know about kart racing, many thanks to Briggs, they have displays at many kinds of events and allways have some karts in their booth.
