Thought I would post a message in this forum regarding a relatively new (3rd year) sports car series here in the U.S.
A quick disclaimer, I have no financial or other interest in the series beyond that of a dad of one of the competitors.
Some of you may know my son Luke from the past couple of years racing in SKUSA’s S1 Shifter Kart class. He was presented with a great opportunity to step up to sports car racing with the Intercontinental Trophy Cup (ITC) series based out of Indy. We just completed our first race weekend at Road Atlanta and I thought I would share our experience as some may be looking for a similar opportunity for themselves and/or their sons/daughters.
The ITC is a spec series that runs race prepped Porsche Cayman S cars. These cars are extremely well prepped and professional in appearance and performance. I came away from our first weekend extremely impressed with the program and am enthusiastic in my endorsement of the series. My first hand impression is that those involved in developing and promoting this series are both very sincere and committed to delivering a pro level experience for much less than the typical open wheel ladder programs that dominate most peoples mind when they think of the “next step”. The paddock had a great family vibe to it and although the racers competed hard on track, they mingled freely among the other teams all weekend sharing on and off track experiences.
Both the series principle and teams have varied racing backgrounds including ALMS, GrandAm and Indy car at the highest levels. At its inception, the ITC was more of a gentlemen’s racing series with many of the racers owning their own cars. The direction over the past couple of years has shifted to position the series as a development platform for up and coming racers from multiple disciplines seeking an opportunity to hone their sports car skills with an eye towards GrandAm/ALMS racing. The series is committed to providing a highly competitive environment with equally prepped cars to allow the drivers skill level to determine the outcome vs. who can out spend who.
The 2013 calendar includes race weekends at the following tracks: Road Atlanta, Sebring, NJMP, NOLA, Mid-Ohio, VIR (2) and Autobahn CC. The final race is as a support race for the ALMS weekend at VIR. There are also 4 Enduro races included in the schedule to give the competitors an opportunity to experience endurance racing as part of a driver team.
The next race weekend is at Sebring in late April and we can’t wait to get back on track.
Web site is www.trophycupracing.com and their facebook page is listed under Intercontinental Trophy Cup Racing. Feel free to PM me if you have questions or would like to learn more. I’ll do my best to help out with any information.

I see this has received 150 views so I'll restate my willingness try to answer any questions folks might have about the ITC.
Here's a quick link to another short POV video shot of Luke at Road Atlanta. He is driving the Black& White #32.
