I've been re reading as much as I can on handling this past week. One author is in left field, one in center, and one in right on the same topic.
I think I'm gonna ask TJ from now on when I want to know something, he seems to know the most. Now to finish the Captain Morgans. hiccup _________________ Don't get stuck in someone else's discarded chewing gum with your thought process. |

I'm in the same boat. I took a CRG manual and an Arrow manual and both have directly conflicting information. (Although I tend to agree with Arrow).
Translation errors? Australian is a very gutteral language with strange names as I understand it.

Same with the Kosmic and Arrow manuals. The Arrow manual seems to follow conventional wisdom. The Kosmic manual said several times, in most cases a hard axle will work, or sometimes a softer axle. This was true with hubs, vars, etc. I found their manual not very useful.
But as far as the differing opinions, they might all be right, depending on application. Smaller, lighter drivers will likely need a different adjustment than a larger, heavier driver. We bought our Arrow off Beasley right after he went from 33rd to 2nd at the Rotax qualifier at NCMP in 2010. Blaise jumped in it without making any adjustments and he wasn't happy with the handling. I realize it was a different track, different engines, different tires, and different drivers, but it took a lot of getting used to. In the end we ended up back pretty close to where we started with it. I think it was a matter of the 2 brands feeling so different. _________________ Blaise Haynes

Glad it seems that way.
I think one of the things that taught me the most about handling was working as a tuner/mechanic for a couple years. I had all these ideas on what worked and what didn't and having someone else drive and confirm or shoot down those ideas really helped.
Other than that, I just read and race and amass a database of things in my head. I've read pretty much every chassis manual and using that info plus my experience in testing stuff, I wrote the Merlin manual.
Thanks for the vote of confidence Jim. _________________ T.J. Koyen

There is plenty of open source based wiki code out there. Somebody with some determination should get on it. Theoretically a wiki should populate itself. I'd be willing to donate one of my hosts and domains if somebody with qualifications would step up to the plate. _________________ http://www.Chrislivengood.net
