Hey folks,
I wanted to take this time to begin a discussion on the Become One documentary. John Shofner and his crew premiered their film last night at Hometown Cinemas to a packed house. It was a battle to get it done for the premier, for certain, as they needed to deal with some corrupted files on the film that morning, spent the day re-editing the segment, and then had to prepare the format for BlueRay. I might be off on the details of their Friday hurdles, but suffice it to say that it was not the easy day they suspected. I think John said something about a 36-hour day. Ugh.
John had to hustle from Austin to bring the completed disc to the theatre, and the viewing was delayed slightly. All I can say is that it what well worth wait. There was some issues with the projector and the formatting, but the imagery and the content was there. The film is the most incredible piece of karting promotion that I've seen in my 20 years in the sport. The footage is incredible, and the interviews with promoters, racers, parents and shop owners perfectly support the message and add personality to the presentation. There's so much real emotion in there. I can't wait to be able to watch the film at home on my big screen.
Personally, I believe that this film is the single most important piece of promotional material that our sport has ever seen. Once the film has been made available to the public, I think that we all should work to get as many people to see it as possible. It's an incredible description and overview of our sport. If you know anyone who still doesn't get why we do this, or doesn't realize that karting isn't 'rental fun karts', this film will change that. When they see it, they'll understand it.
We're going to work on a piece to let everyone know how they can purchase the film. The people who supported the film through Kickstarter will get first dibs, as they should, and then the it will be made available through a number of outlets. Buy this fim. Trust me, you're going to love it.
I'm just thrilled that I was able to be involved.
I know that those who watched the film last night are now busy racing in Lockhart, so we might not get too much discussion here right now. That said, I'm sure things will fire up once the weekend is done. I heard talk of a possible additional screening in California, so we'll keep on this topic to let everyone know. _________________ Rob Howden

I can't wait for this to come out! I showed the trailer to my wife, who thinks any form of racing is the most boring thing she has ever watched, and she got goosebumps. Now she is onboard for the racing! _________________ Lucas Homan

I cannot wait to see the full length movie.
Any plans for it to get some more mainstream exposure? What does it take to get something like this played on Speed or ESPN? |

Once the film is completely ready, and the copies have been sent to the Kickstarter supports and then made available to the public, I'm going to do whatever I can to get this into the hands of everyone I know who could get us any air-time. I'll have to work with John on this, but he's done some incredible things with it.
It's truly the best piece of promotion we've ever had. It's an incredible calling card for the sport. _________________ Rob Howden

I did not get a chance to make it to the premier but did get a chance to talk with John about 3 am Friday night. He was happy with the Film and mentioned a few bugs with the presentation.
Now that we are close to the release date, what ideas does the community have to spread the word beyond the borders of the Karting community? _________________ Darren Swisher

My family attended the premier and really enjoyed the film. It had a nice blend of information, action, and artistry. I was excited to be a Kickstarter contributor and can't wait for my copy. John and his team did a great job capturing what we all know is a great sport! The interviews and commentary were excellent and heartfelt. This film will certainly help grow the sport and everyone needs to buy a copy and show it to friends!

I'm glad I was a sponsor and look forward to getting my DVD copy. I wasn't able to stay Friday night, but look forward to sharing it with family and friends.
