My son will be starting this year in the Yamaha Rookie class, after running kid karts the last 2 years.

I read most places, that the carb settings for a sprint track setting on the wa55 should be around 2 1/4 L and 1/8 H. Is this about right?

I am also wondering about the idle screw on the carb.

Are there any adjustments I should be making on this screw as well?

Thinking is that this may aid him in the initial days of him starting out in this new class and engine, compaired to what he has always been used to in his Comer powered kart that idles.

What are you guys thoughts or actual experiances when you started your kids out with this engine package for your kids.

Any information and help you guys can give me on this situation for a kid comming out of the comer c50 to a kt will be greatly appreciated and will be passed along to several more dads to help our kids start out on the best foot possible this year in this class. AS they will all be new to this class and we look for all of them to grow and succeed together this year.

If I recall on the WA55 we usually ran the high side at around 1/2 (this was when we ran in Phoenix) and around 2 1/4 to 2 1/2 on the low. Hopefully others will chime in as well.

Ron set the low at 2 1/2, the high at 1/2. If it four cycles, lean the low down slightly and leave the high at 1/2.

Ron, good question about the idle screw.

I am not at all familiar with tuning a kt100. James single concern, and at this point the only reason he wants nothing to do with a Yahama, is that it doesnt idle. Is it possible to tune a kt to idle? I understand that this may not be an ideal tune, but it would be nice to have it behave more "Comer" like at least until he gets use to it.

Yes you can get it to idle, but like you said it is not the way to run it.

Its a training thing we have to get over but it can be done.

After this year in Kid Karts, James will be ready and should have no problem with the Yamaha, especially when he sees the rest of his buddies out there on the track doing it.

I am just looking for some tips to pass along about these little carbs, compaired to what I am used to with the big one on my kart. They are alot similiar but when it comes to a 7 year old its a different story, LOL.

As you know my philosophy is to learn all I can and tell everyone I meet what I learned... It makes everybodies experiance in karting a whole lot more fun and enjoyable.

And, I don't mind being the test dummy so to speak..., if it doesn't work don't tell anyone about it, LOL

I don't recall what we did with idle screw either. When my daughter first started though I took a different tact to get it to idle...I adjusted the throttle stop so it was giving just a little gas (and not enough to engage the clutch obviously). I also adjusted the stop to not allow full gas after the first time she was in the kart and went bounding off across the desert...
