|
|
| I'm currently rebuilding my 98 cr125 that I just bought and I put a new piston and ring on the top end. When I took the cylinder off, I noticed that the cylinder was re-sleeved. I put the new OEM Honda piston and ring and new bearing and clips in. I tested the compression and all I got was a max of 60psi. I'm assuming that the piston isn't the right size for the cylinder cause I thought there was too much play between the piston and the cylinder. So now how do I find out which size piston I need to get? This is for my practice motor so I'm not running it for races. |

| Ok so I measured the cylinder bore and it's 54.543. Do I try and find a piston that is 54.5 or even a little smaller? |

| could it be that the ring needs to be "Seated" by breaking in a motor? |

A brand spanking new cylinder is around 54.00mm and $329.00

Why would anyone have tried to re-sleeved the cylinder when they are plated bore. Replating will also be more expensive and not as good as a new cylinder, unless your wanting to keep a modified porting job in your cylinder.
Save yourself a headache and put that brand new piston into another new or used cylinder with original plating on it. That will solve everything because you won't get a piston at 54.5mm to suit.......that's if you measured the bore correctly. _________________ www.samzavaglia.com |

Depends on what it was to start with.... If it was a $329 cylinder that had a $1000 port job done to it with a really bad score, then maybe the only chance to save it was to bore it way out and sleeve it.
That's what he's got now....
What head do you have? If it's setup to run flat tops, Sam's choice is probably your best one. Wiseco only makes oversized pistons in 1mm increments, so that means you need to bore the cylinder you have. It's probably going to cost you $100 to get it bored, and you still have an old cylinder with a sleeve in it that's probably going to give you a heat transfer problem....

| Luckily someone here on EKN contacted me and has an extra 99 cylinder for me for sale. So that saves me from trying to find the right sized piston. Thank guys. |
