I will be moving from Supercan to Pipe this year and unsure what the best clutch/pipe set up is. I run at Circleville Raceway which is a 7/10ths mile track. Any insight into the difference between clutch brands and whether to go with a dry or wet clutch would be appreciated.

RLV L2 or one of the older RLV series pipes (A, G, etc) with the same power range. I saw quite a few RLV Yam pipes at the Springfield swap meet for under $50.

3-disk wet clutch, L&T is probably your best bet. Also quite a few used wet clutches out there from when guys went from wet to dry in the can class.

Are you looking at old style open pipe or the new WKA spec pipe for Yamaha Sr,?

Howdy Greg,

Pretty sure it's the old verison he after. Circleville has an open pipe class, Yam pipe, KPV 3 pipe and KPV 4... If I remember correct. At times they have a decient turn out for the class, pretty cool.

We had good success using Tomar's big beefy dry clutch in pipe as well. It works good for a lighter class, not sure it would hold up to a heavier class though.

Find one of the Mayko pipes by Al Nunley.

I finally got in touch with Al a few years ago over on Bob's, and he was able to direct me to the guy who spun the cones, who had some left.
Even though I have a couple of the pipes, I ordered in 2 sets of the cones just to have for future projects.

Down here in NO, we're running KTs with L3 pipes in a Super Sportsman class. Usually on 40-60 second long courses, up to 70mph on the straights. We run against some F200s.

We've all been running different clutches (couple wet ones, Patiot 3-disc, Tomar TD-23). So far, the Tomar TD-23 has been working very well for us. I've got one that I've done 2 races (1 total hour racing per raceday) and 2 lapping days, for a total of about 4 hours total racing.

My stall is set at 9300rpm, and I've had less than .002 wear on it.
