GoPro mounting, shooting, and editing help

I just have the regular Hero 1 but I shoot at 16:9 widescreen and 32GB is plenty for a days racing.

yes it does... I shot a single race in 720p, at 120 frame rate. It used up 8 gigs... I have since upgraded to a 64g SD.

I have the Hero 3 Black. Its a great camera, however it makes editing a PITA.

I now have footage of one of the best races I have ever had. The footage has potential of slowing it WAY down in the cool parts, such as passes, and spins. However its unfortunate because there is no way to "shrink" the file, or reduce the number of frames. So yes, I can make some awesome slomo, but the rest of the file is excessively huge.

120 frame rate will only be good for jumping off a cliff or something "short." Otherwise there is no way to pick and choose what and where to shoot at that kind of frame rate.

I have since been shooting at 30-60 in 1080.

I am still working with it however, as I seem to have a Lemon of a GoPro. First use out, 3rd turn my camera case broke at the mount. After waiting weeks to get a new one (warranty) My camera shot one good clip, although the sound is 4-16 seconds ahead of the video! (If this were my computer the sound would lag BEHIND the footage.) Then on the third use my camera somehow overheated while charging....

Compared to the goPro products, the Contour stuff just screams quality. The Contours also use a giant on/off slide switch so you know for a fact when it is on or off. That may seem trivial until you see all those guys on the grid fussing with their cameras unsure about whether they are filming or not.

I've got a Roam and have never had an issue with it. Like all of these cameras it exhibits some degree of jello-ing but that's inevitable. The Roam 2 advertises that it will shoot at 60fps and I'd be eager to see how much jello that takes out.

I have the original Contour Roam and I like it. The only thing is I wish it had a mode with a higher frame rate. The wind noise can be problematic. I have taken a small piece of foam and glued it over the mic and it has greatly improved the sound. There is the jello effect at times. The on off switch is awesome. Forget to turn the camera on or just think you did, it is easy to turn it on or just feel to see if it is turned on while on the move. I also like the mounting options for the Contour better. The rotating lens to get the frame level is much easier then crazy multiple pivot mounts. The strap mount is very quick and versatile, anything the strap can warp around you can mount the camera to. I have mounted the camera on my side pod with this mount, wrapped it around my ski boot, and even the fork leg on my motorcycle. Makes for quick easy new camera angles.

Hmm... I had/have contour hd, a hero2, and now a hero3 black. I enjoy the hero 2 and 3 MUCH more than the contour I had....

My current Hero 3 however seems to have had problems ever since it fell off at 80 mph due to a faulty case... Other than that, I like it MUCH more...

The only problem is that I am lousy at editing!

Editing program, adobe Premiere CS6 FTW, has stabilizer that clowns on the YouTube one.Camera: I've tried them all and by far the new Hero 3 black edition is the BEST! The black box, gopro look alikes you see below are actually called "Beastvisions" they are out of Germany. Pretty much a go pro hero 2 but better because I got them for free Smile

IMO Contour's are really sub par.

If any of you have some footage that you want edited and thrown on Youtube, let me know and I'll try to get it up. I've been doing this for a while professionally and actually made a few commercials for the company I work for that aired on Fuel TV, so I'd be happy to help! Check 'em out!

looks really nice. but ... looks like all of that was captured by some kind of chase vehicle. Be cool to know how to do karting stuff with that kind of smoothness.

Freebord... being a snowboarder from cali, livin on the coast, i figured I'd never see freebords on a karting forum! I bought my first freebord nearly 8 years ago!

Truly is just like snowboarding, just dont F**k up, it hurts a lot more Rolling Eyes

Anyways, My GoPro is shooting excellent, and I have tons of footage. I am just lacking in cheap editing software.

I have the old school Rotax radiator mount as well, so it is not very stiff and vibrates way too much. The only good footage I can get is off the front, and on a chesty. Everything else gets overly distorted.

I am still playing around with a good place to mount the camera. I do know some races have rules of where you can have a camera but for testing days it is cool to try out different angles.

I have found mounting on the radiator provides the most stabile picture with helmet mount being the best.
