One more note is that there is a group of guys at Hill Country going to start running World Formula. While Chonda still does well, we are gaining some new members from Quarter Midgets here that ran WF and as the QM scene died here - we were the next best option. So, soon we may have WF around...

Make sure and try to get out on the track you will be driving the most. My home track I rented a 13hp Honda and was bored out of my mind half way through the 15 minute session. You could drive with the throttle pegged for 90% of the track. The straightaways you had time to eat a sandwich or check your voicemail. I have been to another track recently about the same length but twice the turns, It could be fun on a lower powered 4 stroke kart. So make sure you drive what will be your local track and see what might be the better choice for you.

thank you very muich...i am very grateful for your compliment. i just try to help people. i been doing karts since age 18...im 46 now and when i started in 85 karting was really just getting to the next level from where it was. so i got to see improved clutches...the incoming of euro chassis at a much higher rate then before...and the start of the shifters.

kartiing really hasnt changed too much in the last 10 years...other than tag. so alot of newer drivers dont or wont ever see what a few of us have already survived. and unlike some of the even older guys that happen to chime in on here....i still race karts....so i tell it like it is from my point of view....a current racer who has raced a long time, who has much respect for what these little race cars are capable of..and loves the sport.

thank you very much i am very flattered

I started in shifter. This week we got our first TAG kart Rotax Max. So I take it to the track go thru the break in (boy that takes will power) get the jetting power valve and gearing sorted out and off I go. As I'm driving this thing I'm thinking self starting, no shifting, dam fast only around 1 second behind a shifter. I'm 54 years old trim and in good shape but still a well used/abused body 20 laps in a shifter beats me up pretty good. 20 laps in a TAG definitely less of a beating. So I'm thinking maybe all these guys that said don't start with shifter were right.

Then I took the shifter out. In a half lap I remembered why I went shifter. I love banging gears the ability to change ratios ads a dimension to the driving experience that just does it. For me it's well worth the hassles and the beating. It took me around 15 hours of seat time to get on par for the track starting with a shifter. There isn't any way to know how much time it would have taken with a TAG kart but I'm pretty sure it would have been much less.

Just food for thought.

Thank you for all the help guys! I was wondering if you Texas guys knew a place that would rent out a TaG kart? I feel that I'm leaning more that way with what everyone's been saying. Also was wondering if I were to go Tag would that kart that I posted on the first page be able to be swapped with a bigger engine?

And I'm assuming TaG karts don't run front brakes?

Also when I'm looking at the class requirements it specifies a weight ex. "Weight 385"

Now is that weight you and the kart or how does that work?

TAG Generaly doesn't run front brakes so yes it could be adapted. IMO first that kart is over priced second it would have to be changed into something you want. Keep in mind that there is a ton of good used equiptment for sale at very low prices. The kart we just bought was an 05 that had only run 15 minutes time. It would have easily passed for new. It's a PTK/CRG with Rotax max. It cost $2800 I have to invest $500 to upgrade the clutch to the new style. So for $3300 we will have a complete TAG kart in near new condition. BTW I bought that kart from a member who advertised it in this forum's classified.

That is the weight you and the kart together must weigh after a race. The will take you across scales after the race to check that you are not under 385.
