With the opening of the track in Mooresville, NC I made the jump into the world of Karting and bought a CRG Torq. Once I got the kart home I tore it down to clean and asses everything. During the tear down I found some things I wanted to ask about here.
Seated in the kart, turning the wheel seemed normal in regards to effort. However, once I took the spindles off, the bearings seem stiff and almost seem to click as I turn them. I cant imagine that is normal. Can pressed bearings be replaced or is a new spindle needed?
While taking off the rear bumper, the rubber bushing inside the tube on one side did not slide out. I was pulling on it pretty hard. The other side slid out easily. Can/should I pull the bushing out by force or is there a better/easier way to do this?
Now, for the part of me that wants to know everything about everything, there seemed to be a lot of unused tabs and mounting points on my chassis. I'm wondering just what these were meant to be used for and am I missing something?
Thanks everyone!

Josh,
- The bearings are easily replaced.
- The rear bumper bushings can be a pain to remove. However if you're not going to replace it there no reason to remove it so I wouldn't worry about it.
- The various tabs are for mounting accessories:
- On the rear (last picture) are the chainguard mounts. One for an inboard chain engine and one for an outboard chain engine.
- The next pic up shows an exhaust mount bracket on the left axle bearing mount. Not always used.
- Next pic up shows a water pump mounting bracket. If your engine is water-cooled and runs the pump off the axle, this is where the pump mounts.
- Next pic up is the leftside seat strut attachment point.
- Next pic up is a tab on the right side of th frame. I've seen some guys zip-tie the throttle cable or fuel line here. I don't use it for either.
- The top pics show a few tabs unique to your chassis that I'm not familiar with. The tubes underneath the frame in particular. The tabs at the front of the pedal mounts are for the pedal stop adjustment bolts. The tabs just inside from the pedal mounts may me for some type of heel rest... but I'm not sure as that is unique to your chassis.
I'm in garage 21 at MMX. If the door's up and you have any questions, feel free to stop by and say hello. |

Hi Josh,
Welcome to karting
If you haven't found a good shop to do business with I would definitely suggest visiting some in your area and talking with the owners. Most in the business are super passionate about getting new folks into the sport.
As for spindles, yes the bearings can be changed, old ones are either driven out with a punch from the inside or you can use a hotplate to heat up the spindle until they fall out.
Rubber bumper bushings are a pain as you figured out. You will probably have to remove the old one and heat (propane torch) can help with this as well if you can't get it out any other way. I would probably start with a thin screwdriver, some kind of small hook, and lots of WD40 first though. (this is where having a good local shop that can actually take a look will help). You'll also probably need to retrofit full width bumpers so check with the tech steward at your local track for requirements. Mark Bergefelt http://www.bergfeltracing.com/bumpers.html can help with custom bumpers if your track doesn't require the plastic ones.
As for the extra stuff on your chassis that's pretty normal since often more than one configuration is usually possible. Extra tabs can be used for mounting weights and such. If you've taken good photos during disassembly just put it back the way it was and don't worry about the unused appendages.

| Correction - that's not a seat strut tab on the left side of the frame. Its a tab for securing the brake line(s). |

Since the frame also has a water pump mounting tab, I would say that this tab on the left frame rail is the radiator mount. |

Thanks for the help everyone. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something.
For the first pic where Eric mentioned the tabs are for pedal stops. My pedals have the stop bolt brackets welded to the pedal itself. From what I've seen, this is the "OLD" style of pedal?
Also, I believe I have VEN08 Brakes? It looks to be the same caliper, and Mastery Cyl, but when I look up VEN08 brakes, it always shows them with the CRG logo. What is MoGo? Is it CRG's brand or a separate company?

That tab could also be an additional throttle pedal mount. |

Those appear to be VEN99 brakes to me.
You can verify by measuring the pads: http://www.ebay.com/itm/IKP-RACING-BRAKE-PAD-SET-CRG-VEN99-REAR-5099-/170668337600
You will also want to pick up shims if you don't have them.
Furthermore - I would highly suggest you add some safety wire to the ends of those bolts (any anything else related to braking or steering for that matter) |

Brakes are VEN99 equivalent.
Safety wire ALL brake bolts, MC, caliper, everything. Also safety wire the steering wheel to the steering column, as well ALL steering components (tie rods to spindles, spindles to frame, steering column to chassis etc)

i found an easy way to get the rubber out of the frame. a drill aND 1/8IN bit(or any small bit).run the bit in between the rubber and frame and drill.allow the bit to walk its way around the rubber in circles and it will slowly walk the rubber out.its easy and fast and sweat free _________________ GP9/leopard no.47
