Something for fun. If you are a driver looking to lose weight I made up this spreadsheet to help encourage you.
It works out the power to weight ratio of your "package" for each week and roughly how much power you have "gained" by way of weight loss. It also shows the % of power/weight you are leaving on the table compared to others that are not above minimum weight.
Heres' what mine looks like....
Give it a go. Excel isnt my strongpoint so feel free to play around, its a bit quirkey. It's about encouraging yourself using "free HP" rather than an exact science. The generally accepted maximum "safe" weight loss is 2lb/wk, I put in 1.5 for myself to give some leeway.

Jim,
Excellent spreadsheet and well done!!! Great incentive to gain "free" HP.
Alright, I can't help myself..... but I can't help the weight of my "package" but I can surely work on the weight around my middle...
Sorry, too easy!!! _________________ Ken Schilling

Cool spreadsheet. I'm even worse off. I'm heavier and have less horsepower to start with.
I'm loosing but not fast enough. Hopefully this will encourage me! |

I checked the track web site for the new class I was going to run and the weight was 350 Lbs. I worked hard to get my weight down which involves losing some muscle mass along with fat because I'm already in the healthy BMI zone. Got down to 178 best shape of my life, perfect 350 with the kart. Got to the track next spring pumped and they said "Oh that's a misprint, the weight's 375". Apparently rednecks ain't good on computers.

Very cool. What's funny to me is how much people obsess over modifications to their motors or buying the latest and greatest in bearings when they could hit the tread mill or do some weight lifting / diet and gain 3hp.
You even got Joseph's approval. He's going to buy us all Paganis now! |

LOL.
I am currently on a weight loss plan also. I weigh about 185 and with kart and gear come in at 403 So I have 18 pounds to shed to get to that 385 for Stock Honda. I am definitely going to be shedding some muscle to make that weight, but oh well I guess. |

Guess I should "make an app for that".
Yeah it is funny how some people obsess over marginal improvements with their equipment but wont take time to go to the gym/diet. My equipment is good (it aint whats holding me back) but I'm leaving 6% on the table with (admittedly simplified) power to weight taken into consideration. It's food for thought, something to help you put a plan together and stay motivated.
"hey if you work out and don't eat to much fatso, I'll pay you .22HP per week"
Oh, if any of you have android or iPhone, a free app called "Loseit" is excellent for keeping track of your cals in/cals out. I used it in '09 to drop from 240lbs to 185.... _________________ CES Grattan pre-entry is open. TaG, Shifter, KPV, KT100, Animal\LO206, enduro or superkart.

Jim just started the next big mod in karting: anorexia.
When all the 5' 9 models who weigh 100lbs take to the sport I'll know who started it all. |

Bravo, very nice incentive !!!
Cost effective too. Shed your spare tire and you have more money for the karts tires. _________________ #8 CRG JWR Maxter
