How cool is it to win the first race you've ever run? That's what my 12 year old did today. After building the engine setting up the kart tweeking and experimenting along with over 9 hours of practice today was his first race and he won!!! Box stock JR field of 6 at the Showtown Speedway Pinellas Park FL run by the TRI City Kart Club. He did well in the heats took the lead in the feature lost the lead then took it back a half lap before the finish. Best race of the day!!!!

BTW Tri City Kart Club Cheap relaxed local racing tp://www.tricitykartclub.com/ A nice selection of classes and if they don't have enough to make a class they tell me they will mix it use points do whatever they need to do so everbody races.

Congratulations Brian to you and your son!

Question, do they have a Shifter kart class at your track?

Also are there any open practice days?

A couple of us are looking to run a track that is closer to us than Orlando ir Ocala. I live in Lakeland and my buddy lives in new port Richie!
Thanks
Ace

Ace,

Most places that are trying to grow will add a class if you have 3 karts.

With Tri-City racing at Showtime Speedway, practice I believe is only offered on race days.

I used to race at Tri-City before Orlando and OGP was around, back in the 90's. It was a pretty large club getting near 100 karts a race. After growing up and racing in the midwest, the track was not that great for karts. As it was very rough, but it was the only show in town. (At the time the choices for the FL tracks was very limited. Only had Naples, Tri-City, 103rd.) It's an option for practice, but in the end. I think most will end up at OGP or OKC.

Congratulations!!!!!

Awesome organization, looks like exactly the kind of club atmosphere that will keep karting growing for years to come. IMHO if we put the kids first we'll all win, in racing and in life Very Happy

Cheers,

Ace,

They do allow shifters to run and race, they are generally combined with the TaG's & not a stand alone class. Personally, I don't think you would like the track in a shifter, it's a small paved oval track that uses the "figure 8" part of the track as chicanes.....you're either turning right or you're turning left. I don't think a shifter would be able to get above 3rd and it would be very hard on tires. If you wanted to throw on a pair of old MG red's, I bet it would be a fun drifting track though.

The track is a figure 8 and it can be configured many ways. Yesterday shifter and TAG were light because many were in Palm Beach. The key with this place is flexibility. If the shifter or TAG guys are in agreement the track can configured using 3/4 of the oval and just part of the inner section. Set up like that it would be very fast. They also run a full oval senior box stock. I think almost anything is possible if there is agreement in the class. Just a real easy friendly home town type of place to race that's really looking to bring people in.
