EKN Trackside Live: Saturday, January 12, 2013

I would expect that this is a first for many of the racers in the paddock this weekend for the opening round of the Rotax Challenge of the Americas. Temperatures dropped into the low 20s overnight here in Tucson and we still have hit 30 degrees as we close on the qualifying sessions. The sun is out, thankfully, but any standing water has frozen and the teams are dealing with the associated issues.

Throughout the day yesterday, we were diligent in reminding people to drain their engines of all water before heading to their hotels for the night. While this was universally followed, a number of drivers did not attempt to blow the residual water out of their engines, as water can still pool in certain areas, such as the water pump. The result was a few water pump failures during this morning's warm-up, so there are a few repairs going on as I write this.

The driver's meeting is currently underway, and qualifying begins at 9:30 am MT with Junior Max. We'll be firing things up on EKN Live as well, so click on the live page to tune in. We've also got our EKN Live mobile set-up ready to go, and we have a link on the EKN Live page directly below the 'EKN Broadcast' window. You simply need to download the Livestream app to tune into our channel. It's going to be a great day of racing.
